SO glad to know Thai Time III is now open on Mondays - I was going to say the only time we've ever been disappointed was on Mondays when they were closed. My son and I always order the same thing, and it's always been good. Stir fried eggplant with duck, and mine is Stir fried eggplant with mock duck. It smelled so good, it took all my self-control not to taste it in the car, and it was worth waiting because it was steaming hot when I got it home, and we both loved our food. The eggplant and other vegetables were perfect and the sauce was delicious - paired well with brown rice. If you like your food exceptionally spicy, you have to let them know you want it hotter than their standard 1-3 scale. I asked for the mock duck to be 3, and the other dish, I said, on a scale of 1-3, make it 11. I assured her that my son likes tears to run down his cheeks when he eats Asian food. She smiled and said they call it "Thai hot." The food was delicious and prepared to the level of heat he wanted - but I don't think he'll want it like that again. In other words, if you like super hot food, their 1-3 scale will not be satisfying. Tell them to use the "Thai hot" scale - but remember. Thai Hot = Fear Factor Hot. Next time, I will ask them on a scale of 1-3, make mine a 4, and he will ask for 5, maybe 6. We'll be back - we've been faithful Thai Time patrons for years.

Wow this place has a really good pad Thai. I went here for lunch with my dad. Who has been telling me to try this place for ages because it's really good and he was right.

Wonderful food, spicy noodles, green curry and curry rice. Loved it all except for the small soup (too salty for my taste.). We will come back often, a great find in Clairemont!

I've been here a few times and the foods ok, nothing special but the service is terrible! I ordered carry out from the menu off their website, went to pick it up and was told a different amount. Apparently they raised their prices but have not updated their website, the manager was unwilling to honor their advertised priced items, saying she couldn't but without valid reason. Now it's definitely too overpriced for the quality of food. There are too many good restaurants in San Diego to have to deal with poor customer service!

Friendly wait staff, earnest and delicious food . 1 star is spicy scale only goes up to 3 stars

I tried to go at 8:15 on a weeknight (yelp and restaurant door say they are open until 9:30) and they told me they were closed? Seems like poor management! Lady at the front said the door was wrong and they close at 9 but it still seems odd to turn away customers 45 minutes before your (new early) closing time.

Whenever my families tastebuds want to visit Thailand. I order on the phone the Green Curry Mersey it's Good! And when you order by phone pick up is 15 minutes or less. This is a favorite for our happy home in Clairemont.

I just don't get it. I keep giving this place a try ( now 12 times), because I work nearby and its always overpriced and lacking what it should be. Staff is nice and courteous, very casual. But the food just lacks soooooo much. I want to like this place and go in the kitchen bad and tell them what they are doing wrong.Although, It's possibly they cook the food based on what the general public pallet thinks is good, but then again maybe the vox populi doesn't know what is good until they experience it. I continue to have hope for them though because they are so sweet :)

Amazing everything! Great, fast service & quality food :-) The tom ka soup is TO DIE FOR! Also really enjoyed the pad thai & green curry. Our server was great & had us laughing which made the experience even better.

I was a first timer here and I have two words for you. Green curry! It was so flavorful and well done. I'm already craving it again and will definitely come back. Wonderful and friendly service as well.

This is my favorite thai food place! Not only is the food delicious, but the service and staff is also extremely welcoming. I come here often, and have not been disappointed. I usually order fried rice, pad see ew, or massaman curry!

  • Nhi D.

I got an order of yellow curry. It has a very strong fish sauce taste and smell. And the texture is really liquidy. Ike water consistency. I've def had better. And $2 for brown rice is pricey but they do give you a good amount. 3 stars because I've only tried one thing. Maybe I'll come back and try their panang curry

Came here with family last Friday for dinner and the place was dead empty, oh, save for the 2 flies constantly buzzing around us. Pretty annoying. We got 2 orders of the pad thai which were soggy and had too much sauce. The noodles were swimming it in. The fact that it was a bit too salty didn't help either. Also ordered the chicken penang curry because I was craving curry, and it came with a bowl of rice. I asked how spicy it was since there was a chili sign next to it on the menu and I'm a little sensitive to spicy foods. Our waitress made it sound like it was just a bit of pepper, but it was spicy enough that I had to stop eating it and trade with my dad. So don't get this if you can't handle spicy foods. I have to say the curry flavor itself was delicious though! It had a very rich creamy consistency with bell peppers and basil. Overall, the prices were the same as any other thai food restaurant, but I've had better thai food at other places.

This is our favorite thai restaurant! We go all the time not only for the amazing food but also the great service! The owner is so nice and our favorite waiter Brady always makes it a fun dining experience! Great prices too! I love their panang chicken curry and Tom Kha soup with noodles! Yummm!

Mmmmm, coconut ice cream is so good. The hostess and servers are absolute sweethearts. Best Thai place for a night at home watching movies!

. We had this coupon for BOGO free entree and the food was very good. We ordered the crab fried rice, chicken green curry, and beef salad. The service was fast and friendly. The place seemed clean and organized. Might have some trouble finding some well lit parking at night but you won't be disappointed. So far so good!

Thai Time III is one of my favorite places to eat and they have been consistently good for years! We have eaten in the restaurant a couple of times, but mostly order for take-out, so I am rating them mostly for the flavor and quality of their food. The customer service has always been great when we order to go and out orders have always been accurate. Our favorite dishes are the Fried Spring Rolls, Spicy Basil Tofu, Panang Curry Tofu and the Tom Kha Soup. The Tom Kha Soup is by far the best I have ever had and the one I compare all others to. We frequent Thai restaurants when we eat out, so I have compared it to a lot of other restaurants, and it is still my favorite by far. My husband is partial to Panang Curry, and he too finds that Thai Time III is the one to compare all others too. He has said a few times, "not as good as Thai Time III" if we try another restaurant. The spicy basil is just so flavorful and delicious. I don't know what else to say, but that I do a little happy dance with each bite! The portions are quite large and I love how fresh the vegetable are in the dishes. For example, the bell pepper is still bright and crisp when you get your order, and not soggy and over done. Another thing I really like about them is how knowledgeable they are about the ingredients and how willing they are to make accommodations for vegetarian and vegan diets. They will tell you if there is fish sauce, if the fish sauce can be left out and if they can use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. This means a lot to me when they are knowledgeable and honest about their ingredients. So yummy! I look forward to the next take out order! Hooray for Thai Time III!!!

  • Annie K.

Great service and excellent food! All at very affordable prices! The spice levels are from a 1-3 but if you like your food spicyyou can do "Thai spicy" which I guess is a step (or two) above level 3. I got level 3 on my pad-sew and it was perfect! It was spicy enough to give me a little kick but not too much that it took away from the food :] mmm.. My suggestion: go for lunch special (comes with salad, soup, curry wonton, egg roll with entree) and get the spice 3 level! enjoy~

    (5)
  • Allen Y.

Food is pretty good here and portions are nice sized to leave your belly full and a happy customer. They have different spiciness levels and I requested an "asian hot" level because the waitress told me that they had less spicy "american hot" levels. And I didn't want to dilly-dally around with the unauthentic style. I ordered a pad see eu. It was really flavorful and had good spice. The meat was on point and the vegetables were good. I wouldn't mind coming here again. It's a pretty quiet place and it wasn't too busy. I hope to get the fried spring rolls next time I come!

I've been coming here for 8-9 years and never even thought about taking my family here! I always did take out or had lunch with friends. Long story short my son wanted Thai and I took him here and he loved it, wanting to know why I had never recommended it before? Don't know but ended up taking them both here and now they want to come all the time. I like the Pad Thai, Spicy noodles, Panang curry, sweet rice and mango and more! You can ask them to spice up your dishes more or request no spice. I have never had a bad meal here and I love the service, I am almoost treated like family, this may be why some people say the service is bad. I converse with the staff like I was at home and this includes me being a smart a-- with them. Any ways, I recommend this place!!

VEGETARIANS BEWARE!!! i've been vegetarian for some years now, so my body is very sensitive to any meat. i ordered the vegetarian pad see ew. i said no fish sauce and the server even said no fish sauce when she served me. two hours later i was sick to my stomach, barfing everything up. its been two days and i still feel sick. vegans and vegetarians, be careful!!!

Im not usually a fan of Thai food, i don't dislike it, i just go when other people want thai food. I was just too lazy to cook so got some take out from here. The process was easy, phone it in, pick it up in a few minutes. Easy peezy! Pad See Ew with chicken was really good. With noodles, texture is really important and these were done right, they were flavorful and soft and not overly sauced and soggy like many other places. Green curry (Medium Heat) was really good! Had bell peppers, some peas, and eggplant. It had a nice sweet coconut flavor and the right amount of heat (hotter would have been alright too.) It was really tasty and made me think that i actually like Thai food. Spicy Fried rice, delivered as promised! It was spicy, but not overly crazy spicy, like you can't eat it or taste anything else. Id say on a scale of 1 - 10 its probably a 7.5 or 8. One of the main reasons i avoid Thai places is you never know what to expect with the heat levels. I always have to ask, is it Thai Spicy? or American spicy? (American spicy = Thai Medium spicy) So i always ask for 7 or 8 level of heat. I really enjoyed the food here, and i'd come back on my own for the Pad See Ew and green curry, or maybe next time ill try the red or panang curry.

This is one of my favorite/ go to restaurants. I usually start with the sea food soup and some apps. The fresh spring rolls are great and I love the golden shrimp. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu the Curry, Pad Thai, pad se ew, spicy basil it's all good. If you are lol in for some good Thai in Clairemont then check out this place.

Thai time is a perfect example of "a-ok". We went here for lunch last weekend, and it was quick, and inexpensive. The food was ok--not great, but certainly not bad at all. It was well worth the cost, and the service was friendly and quick. There are better thai places in san diego, but this is close to our apartment, and a good place for a cheap lunch.

I came here because I craved Pad Thai after being on yelp at 3am the night before. I woke up and immediately felt possessed to get Pad Thai. I ended up here. Somehow. I had their lunch menu and it was surprisingly cheap. Well, I decided to go with the Vegetarian Pad Thai. It came with a lettuce salad with peanut sauce, a very salty small soup, an eggroll, and some other fried thing. Honestly, their food quality is nothing special (3 star) but I was impressed with the price (5.50 for this meal!) so I bumped up a star. I left very content and full (who needs meat for lunch anyway?) and paid 7 bucks after tax and tip. NOT BAD FOR THAI LUNCH. Sadly if you get chicken...you pay 2 bucks more. What's cool is that for their Lunch menu, they have like 20 items you can choose from and they will cost the same. Pretty sick, man. Their curries and other stuff are in that price grouping - so it's a pretty good deal. Con: - There's a $10 minimum for credit cards. Not surprised, it's an Asian restaurant. In the end it was a decent meal. I'll come back another time for other stuff.

Very affordable, large portions! 3 orders of pad Thai and an appetizer is more than enough for 4 people. Quick service! Plum & peanut sauce is amazing. & whatever that spicy jalapeño soy sauce is, it's brilliant! Definitely my new Thai spot!

My girlfriend loves Thai, and we have been trying out all the places in the area. Thai Time III was great! I suggest going for lunch so you can take advantage of the lunch specials. I got the sweet & sour dish with shrimp. Very good food! Can't wait to eat here again

My go to place for quick, well priced Thai. Their Panang Curry has pineapple in it that really makes the dish. Service is always good and very friendly. Recommend their lunch specials as well as for take out!

  • Jenny C.

Mehhh... There are definitely much better Thai restaurants around SD. The curries are okay. It's good for take out if you're looking for somewhere close. The pad thai is good, standard, but extremely oily. I almost felt gross from consuming so much oil. Also had the mixed seafood in red curry for $15, it was definitely overpriced and it came with cheap small pieces of different things. Flavor was okay though.

The pad thai is great. A plate of pad thai can be shared between two people.

  • Christina S.

I was craving Thai food, so I dragged my parents here. The restaurant was super empty, but I was determined. I ordered pad see eew with duck, two of my favorite things combined in one dish. The service was good, and my food was this enormous portion that came out pretty quickly. Seriously some of the best pad see eew I've ever had. It was perfectly garlicy and sweet. I've never had any that was better. Super surprising, especially for an empty restaurant. But you won't be disappointed.

My boyfriend and I are creatures of habit. We first started to come here about 5-6 months ago, and now this is our go-to spot! It's never too busy, so the food comes out quickly and very hot! The prices are really good and the portions are huge! We split a large pot of Tom Kha soup and split an entree. Staff is very friendly and respectful.

  • J D.

The pad Thai was thick and delicious, the Tom Ka was also significantly creamier than anywhere else. The reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because my friend got 5 cashews in her Masaman curry, she expected more (and so did I, we shared). Oh well tough luck.

    * * Carryout Service * * Came in on a midweek evening around 5ish to pick up dinner. It was quiet inside as they were preparing for their dinner service. I received a warm greeting and put in my order for panang curry with chicken and eggplant along with an order of spicy fried rice with beef. She didn't ask me about the level of spiciness and said the order would be ready in ten minutes. The food came out on time and was still piping hot because I drove straight home. There was a lot of fried rice goodness in the large styro-box for sharing [ yelp.com/biz_photos/sWpx… . The panang was very enjoyable with ample amounts of chicken and eggplant in delicious curry sauce [ yelp.com/biz_photos/sWpx… . I had to stop myself short of overstuffing. Both dishes were tasty, but neither were as spicy as expected. Next time, I should clarify the piquancy. I'll be back again to try their lunch specials.

Phone ordered for takeout and the lady was very courteous and prompt to fill my order. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Larb. I would say that Annie is correct to say that level 3 spicy would be a perfect amount of spiciness because I ordered level 2 spicy and felt that it could have been spicier. I loved the portion sizes and it definitely makes for easily two meals. I do have to say that I'm interested in trying their food in the restaurant instead of taking it home because I think taking it home may have affected the noodles of the Pad Thai (they probably kept cooking while it was in the take out container). This is of course not their fault, for I am sure that the noodles were cooked to perfection to serve piping hot in their restaurant. The flavors were still there and it more than satisfied my craving for Pad Thai. Overall, I enjoyed this place and will probably go back.

  • Maria M.

Food is decent for a quick lunch meal or takeout dinner. The amount they give you for lunch is a little weak though. I wouldn't dine here because they just don't seek very friendly. When I walked in, there was no "hello" or "welcome", just a curt "dine in or take out?" and they're very short with you over the phone as well. Beware also that there is a $10 minimum on credit cards.

Love this place. I've had several favorite thai places in san diego but they all eventually start going downhill. This place has been the most consistent and also has good prices and service. Pad See Ew for the win!

  • Sara T.

Spring rolls are delicious! Pad Thai was very good. A little sweeter than I'm used to, but still tasty. I came for lunch and the service was mediocre, but not bad.

    (4)
  • Sandra C.

The service was fast--food came out piping hot shortly after we ordered so 4 stars for that. The food was okay--we've had better, we've had worse. We had pad prek with beef (it was okay) and pad say yew (a little too sweet and needed more spice). The prices are $7-$14 as inexpensive and reasonable.

Lunch special (11am-3pm Mon-Sat): small salad dressed w/ peanut dressing, tom yum soup, main entree of your choice with a curried-potato won-ton and a vegetable egg roll from $5.50 and up- depending on the type of meat to accompany your entree. We always come here for the lunch special for their delicious and cheap Thai food, This time, we ordered the chicken Pad Thai and chicken Panang Curry lunch specials. Pad Thai was delicious- never had a complaint for this dish. The Panang curry surprised me as I usually do not like curry with coconut milk. But submerge their rice into this savory and creamy dish filled with pineapples, chicken and it is bound to satisfy and fill you up! $16 for a tasty meal, comfortable atmosphere, attentive service, and some Pad Thai leftovers to reminisce over. What's more to ask?

  • Valerie G.

Monica is always friendly. It's a very relaxed atmosphere. I order the Pad Thai and Spicy Noodles. Every time I order, it's prepared to perfection. Even though there's a Thai restaurant in my neighborhood, I drive to Clairemont. Best Thai restaurant in town.

Not a fan...poor service and unfriendly. Food was mediocre. I would not recommend anyone to come here. Maybe call in your order. I know for sure they will not get my business and I will definitely tell others.

  • Lila M.

Service was good. However it took us a while to get seated as this seems like a family owned business. For the food ordered the chow mein w chicken it was good- had lots of soy sauce not a big fan of. Ordered the panang curry with beef and the coconut curry milk seemed dotty like its been sitting for a while. Price was great but that was all.

Checked out this spot for lunch with my coworkers last week. They have a good lunch menu with items ranging from $5.95 and up. I got a spicy basil stir fry with brown rice (a plus that they had brown rice available), and my coworkers both got the spicy noodles. The lunch specials are served with a cup of soup and salad. The spice level for my stir fry was good, and the portions were generous. Decent spot for a relatively quick, cheap lunch, but not my favorite Thai spot in San Diego (see Sab-E-Lee).

I decided to try Thai Time because I received the coupon from the "Weekly Clipper" in Clairemont. I love how close this place is to my apartment, how incredibly FAST and friendly the service is (it's like the Flash is cooking and serving my meal), the lunch deals, and some respectable dishes: Pad Thai-very tasty, very SPRINGY noodles, a little on the sweet side Yellow Curry-was a bit watery and lacking in flavor Spicy Noodle-tasty, but NOT spicy at all Spicy Fried Rice-quite spicy, basil-y and very flavorful Some quick tips: their metric of spicy is definitely skewed in the lower end, so if you like spicy food tell them you want it extra spicy. Or once the dish comes out, add the red pepper flake, chile fish sauce, or pickled chiles. Decor is so-so, definitely not romantic date material but I always say it doesn't really matter where you go with someone as much as who is with you.

Don't get me wrong, the food is DELICIOUS! But the service was so terrible, it ruined my entire dining experience... When we came in, there were only two tables occupied, and the hostess seated us next to the window, which was fine. Throughout my dining experience though, I didn't know if we had a waitress or a waiter -- the waitress came to our table twice to seat us and take our order, and then after that, a waiter came to give us our food and give us our togo boxes... Anyway, the waitress/waiter never checked up on us to refill our waters, etc. I ordered the panang vegetarian curry, which was by far one of the best curry I've ever tasted, but when I asked for 4 togo boxes, the waiter first gave us two, then I asked for two more boxes, and he came by to give us one, so a few minutes later when he was in my sight (I swear they were hiding in the kitchen, it was so hard to get a hold of them!), I had to ask for another box.... I just thought the whole experience was a bit ridiculous... Next time, I'll just order togo.

This place has a decent amount of people during lunch time. It has a relaxing ambience and a nice décor. I started my lunch order with a fresh spring roll to start. I love vegetables and spring rolls in general so they couldn't really mess this one up. I ordered the chicken pad ped which is vegetables and chicken pieces sautéed in a spicy basil sauce. I am Thai and it was decent but not up to my standards. With that said, I would think that non-Thai folks would still find it appetizing! My boyfriend ordered the lunch special. He ordered the Duck green curry with jasmine rice. It came with a small side of peanut dressing salad and a vegetable lemongrass type of soup. The green curry is not the type of green curry that I am use to but it was still flavorful. I would probably come here again for a quick Thai food fix. As far as the distributions of my ratings.... Food 3/5. Service 4/5. And Experience 4/5.

The only decent Thai food within a 10 minute drive from UCSD. Located near Cotixans and Vallartas, this restaurant has never disappointed. Service was great and has a distinct, family-owned feel to it. Food is delicious and comes out in a timely manner and the parking in this plaza is not bad. The only downside is that there ARE better Thai places in Hillcrest and Downtown that I felt tasted more authentic. For now, convenience wins. On a side note, this place does offer "moc-meat" which is a plus for those that are vegetarians.

The lunch specials here start at $4.95, which is a bit deceiving because anything worth eating with meat in it is $6.95 and up. It's also pretty quick as well, and you get your complimentary appetizer salad and soup within about 5 minutes of ordering. However, cheap and quick is about the only thing Thai Time III has going for it. Their soup tasted like diluted spicy ketchup. The salad was modest, with a lot of peanut dressing that tasted overly sweet. The pad kee mow was fairly lackluster and didn't have much meat in it. The hot basil chicken was alright, and was heavy on the basil. Unlike other Thai restaurants, the service here didn't even ask our spice-loving hero how hot he wanted his dishes on a scale of 1-10, they just give you a very tamed down version of what Thai food usually is. PROS: - Fast service. - Cheap lunch combos. CONS: - Egg rolls and fried won tons are borderline inedible. - Quality of the food reflects the price. - Hot sauces tasted like they've been sitting out for too long and didn't have much punch.

I have come here so many times with my husband and the food is always good and dependable. I should have written a review a long time ago. Their staff is always so nice and friendly. I have got their curries and their pad kee mow, and my husband gets pad see ew. Their prices are also so very reasonable. We will keep coming back.

Ordered the Pad Thai on the phone on the way to the restaurant. Was a little hard to understand what was going on because whoever answered the phone I think passed it to someone else and also was talking in the background so I couldn't tell if they got my order or not. They said it would be 15 minutes, I was already on my way and got there within 5-8 minutes and expected to wait, but my order was ready within a couple minutes of me being there which was awesome! I ordered the pad thai, I wanted to ordered it spicy but with the confusion on the phone I think I ended up ordering it at a number 3 spicy which turned out to be not very spicy at all. That could have been my fault though because I thought they said from 1-3 so I thought 3 would be spicy. The food was excellent and I got extra spice while I was there that added the kick I wanted. The portion size was good which I was pleased with because alot of times you pay alot for thai food and don't end up getting filled from the portion size. I will definately be going back there I wish they were a little closer to my home but anytime I am in that area I will make a detour that way. Well worth the drive even if I have no other reason to be over in that area! Although I didn't dine in, the inside looked quaint, which is a nice way of saying small, and was typical of a thai decor. All of the staff I interacted with was super nice, friendly, and helpful, I'll have to dine in next time and see how the service is. Have been going here every Friday since my Original post, the food is fantastic and the people are always incredibaly friendly! Easily some of the best if not the best Thai food I've ever had AND at a reasonable price.

I love this place!! They have the best spicy chicken panag curry& spicy fried rice. I'm addicted and order it all the time. Their service staff is very friendly and accommodating when I make request items not on their menu. They also allow to go orders so I call in my food for pick up. There is a $10 minimum required if you are paying with your card.

Thai Time III is definitely worth going back to! Last week I had a party that started around 10am. I decided to order party plates of thai food but I couldn't find a thai restaurant that opens early enough to get my food ready. But I called Thai Time III and the owner picked up and took on my order. Even though her restaurant doesn't open until 11:00am, she sacrificed her time to go to the restaurant early just so she can cook and get my party plates ready to be picked up by 10:00am! On top of that, I went in the day before so I can make a deposit. When I was about to leave after paying the deposit, the owner asked if I were in a rush to leave. When I hesitatingly said no, she told me to wait for her for a few minutes and went back inside the kitchen. When she came out, she handed me a box of her freshly baked coconut dessert and let me bring it home! She's sooo sweet!! It touched my heart. :') I ordered a party plate of Pad See Ew and Pad Thai. It was DELICIOUS! The meat was well-cooked and the sauce was very tasty! Both plates were gone by the end of the party! I can't wait to go back and eat their food again! :)

I've eaten here many times. The food is usually pretty good, served fast, and at a good price. I was disapointed this time. I ordered the Chicken Laarb. Though the flavors were good, this was not Laarb. As the menu accurately describes it, Laarb is "Ground meat of your choice mixed with chili, red onion, cilantro, ground rice, green onion, mint leaves, and lime juice, served with fresh lettuce." What I was served was not ground chicken and rice, but just chopped up chicken. And there were no red onions. It was a disappiontment since this is one of my favorite Thai dishes to order.

Tried Thai Time III with a coupon first months ago and have been back ever since. Friendly staff and great food. I love all the curries, especially the Panang and Yellow Curry. You can decide to have your food mild, medium or spicy - medium is fine for me. Lunch specials are inexpensive and a good deal - huge portions. I'm not a fan of the salad (just because of my peanut allergy), but everything else is really tasty. I normally cook curries myself with all the fresh ingredients - and Thai Time III is pretty close to that very fresh taste. I would always recommend going there - give it a try!

Love the quality & value of this place. Never been disappointed in a dish. Our favorites are the spicy noodles & pad Thai dish. But their curries are amazing too! the owner is super friendly. We used to come here very frequently when we lived in SD. Now that we moved 120 miles away, we make an effort to get take out or dine here when we come to SD.

3.5 The cook which is an older lady is sweet as pie. They were very attentive to us and I enjoy their service. My bf likes the Tom Kha bc it's a lot sweeter. I tried the Tom Yum and its diff. I like the intense chilli so I would prob not order that again. I had the spinach noodle which is pan fried with curry powder. Yum! I would eat that again.

I was driving home from work and decided that it is going to be Thai and I want it with chicken tonight. I ordered Pad See Eew and was very disappointed. If I were to separate the amount of chicken that this dish contained it would fit in a spoonful and a half maybe. The bed of noodles also consisted of maybe two spoonfuls of broccoli and carrots... $ 8.50 for a box full of pretty greasy noodles... I was craving the Thai deliciousness but still for $ 8.50 it would be nice to have some nutrition to it.. I used to like coming to this place and I appreciated their attention to detail (like having a brown rice option) and always thought they maintained high level of food quality as for a small neighborhood place in Clairemont but next time instead of going there I will just swing by a grocery store and grab one of those cheap quick noodle fix noodle dishes.

I only went to this place because the Chinese place closed at 7pm. Didn't want to waste a car trip out to Clairemont. I decided to get the Tom yum soup and the pad see eew. And surprisingly the pad see eew was pretty good! Better than most places because it wasn't dry and I asked for spicy and it was spicy! I was really surprised, and it was cheap too. The tom yum soup on the other hand wasn't that great...they can do better...nothing out of the ordinary and definitely not the best that I've tried. But the pad see eew, pretty good!

I use to love going to Thai time, the food taste good. However, over the years the portions have become smaller and smaller. The last time I went I ordered a small tom yum soup to go. I asked for shrimp and WHATEVER veggies came in it.( I did not want to be charged extra) When I went to pick up my food, the total for the small cup of soup was $8.50!!!!. The small is usually $4.50 but she charged me for shrimp $1.50(which is ok) and extra vegetables $1.50?!!! On top of that since I was using my debit/credit card $1 more? So my tiny cup of soup was over $8. That's crazy!!! Then to add insult to injury when I was home and finally went to eat my $8.50 tiny cup of soup. There were 2 tiny shrimps and literally 4 floating pieces of Zucchini and carrot. Wow I've never been so pissed in my life. Plus the manager or owner( middle aged lady, who's always there) is very rude. After 10yrs of going here off and on, I am officially over it!!! Good riddens!!

I'm not a big Thai food eater. But had dinner there with a couple of friends on Monday - The waitress was great, friendly and helpful, even after we hit her with our unreasonable request for separate checks. I had a chicken dish #66 it was very good. Be warned their heat scale is 1 to 3 not the normal 1 - xx. I had the two and I would say if you can handle good Mexican red hot sauce you can handle this but it is a notch or two higher in spiciness. But I'll be going back to see if they meet the consistency challenge.

I am always craving Thai food and am on the hunt for a new restaurant. Thai Time III seemed a very good candidate. As soon as I walked in, I could tell it was going to live up to my expectations. I have a distaste for 'fancy' Thai places and prefer small, family-run businesses. The decor is that of a typical Asian restaurant (more specifically, much like any typical Chinese restaurant). There is a large fish tank with those goldfish with huge brains in the front and lots of mood lighting and seafoam green furniture. It's relaxing and spacious. The service was great. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. They provided a pitcher of water, which is a Godsend, since I down water too quickly to replace otherwise. The food was a-mazing. The menu was pretty substantial and satisfying. I ordered Pad See Ew, which is always a tasty dish. Thai Time made it wonderfully. My fiance always asks for extra sauce on his, but forgot to ask when ordering. Unfortunately, it was too late to get any extra sauce, but the owner made an exception and cooked some up for us! My qualms about giving this restaurant a 5-star rating include the slightly high price, but mostly the small portions. There weren't any shrimp chips or soups as appetizers, which is atypical as far as my Thai restaurant experiences go. The actual meal is large enough to fill you, for sure, but that's not how Thai food is typically done. In my experience, every single Thai place that I've ever loved serves enough food for at least 1 and a half or 2 meals (leftovers, of course). I would definitely visit again, but I'll be on the prowl again for my perfect Thai place!

I base all of my new restaurant attempts based on reviews on Yelp. I'll agree with what others say here. I tried it for the first time on Monday, craving Thai while watching Monday Night Football. I ordered the massaman curry with chicken, my friend ordered the pad thai, and we shared the fried spring rolls. We were late in picking the food up and I was surprised at how hot it remained, and how crispy the spring rolls were even after we got home. I've done pick up before and regretted it because of cold pasta or cold fries. I was definitely a fan of the food, the proportions, and the staff was really nice when ordering. I'll definitely eat here again!

My friends and I had dinner here and we were not very impressed. The food just tasted off. We all agreed that the Tom Yum was not sour enough and the panang was too creamy. I also ordered the Pad See Ew and was served spicy noodles instead because the chef is new and I guess didn't know the difference?? I felt like the servers tried hard, but they also weren't really on their game. Our soup was served without bowls or spoons and our waitress stopped us mid order to answer the phone and take a phone order at our table! The next time I'm craving Thai, I think I'll head elsewhere.

go for their lunch specials, it includes soup, salad, fried wonton, eggroll with sauce, slice of orange, and your entree. i've been here quite a few times now, actually just got back from there, and it's never disappointed me. granted, it's not the greatest thai, but it's filling and does the job. i usually get the panang curry, and my only complaint is that next to panang on the menu it has a pepper indicating it's hot and spicy. not! i'm sure that i'll come back here for lunch, maybe it's time for me to try something new. my coworkers had noodle dishes, and they looked delish! i must try that the next time we come here for lunch.

I was having dinner here last night, and it was pretty decent. I had the fried Tofu as the appetizer, and for the entree I had the spaghetti with green curry. The curry gave the spaghetti its flavor. The basil in the curry is what made it good for me. The basil made the meal feel light, and I was able to go out afterward without feeling sleepy. Overall, it was a good experience I will have to make another visit.

I used to eat here regularly in 2003-2004 when I was living in San Diego. My wife loves the Tom Ka soup and we always used to get the pot. They have good vegetarian dishes and sometimes used to give free dessert at the end. Cool decor and nice clean bathrooms. Friendly waitstaff. Oh, they have great veggie springrolls.

It's good food at a good price. Sure you might see graffiti on the wall, and three shady looking dudes exchanging cash for a small baggy worth of items that look like they could enhance your meal, but they have scallops that will knock your socks off. and their pad thai is very worthy of a smile. friendly service too, especially for an asian restaurant....no offense.

I was first introduced to this place by my friend back in the day as a poor UCSD undergrad. It was a great restaurant for cheap decent Thai food and great atmosphere. Until yesterday. It had been a long time since I ate there (June 2006) so I decided to visit them again. When I entered, I could feel the difference there. It seemed to me they had some staffing changes. The nice old man that used to work there was nowhere in sight. In exchange, they got a grumpy hostess who was too busy on the phone chit chatting than serving customers. She glared at me when I entered and repeatedly attempted to rush me through my orders. At the exact second when I was done with my food, she came with my check and did not bother asking me how the food was or whether if I need anything else. She just came silently, stuck out her arm, and handed me the bill. Wow, so much for being up front. I was quite disgruntled with her service although I kept my cool and smiled at her, hoping that she would at least show some emotions. But, to no avail. She was a robot with PMS. She treated the lady customer behind me equally harsh and sighed and stomped her little feet whenever the customer requested to have her sauce done a certain way. In addition, she yelled at another waitress in front of all of us, disturbing the peace and quiet in the tiny restaurant. How very inappropriate. But interestingly, as soon as she recognized one of the frequent customers, she dashed over to him with such delight and flirted with him shamelessly. What is up with that? Total gender discrimination. 'Tis a shame. At that time I had already formulated how much tip she was getting. Anyhow, enough of my rant about their service. Foodwise, this place is decent. I have always enjoyed my selections there, be it Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Pineapple Fried Rice, or Kai Qua. The portions are medium, and lunches are definitely a better deal than dinners. Their dishes used to be cheaper but even now, the price is agreeable and affordable. Now if only their customer service could kick it up a knotch, then I would be less hesitant to give them more points. Their service used to be good, but not anymore! So in short, based on my most recent experience: Service: D Food: B+ Like I said before, and I will say it again: I got no time for Thai. Thai Time 3 has successfully driven away a customer like me, thanks to their lousy service.

Thai Time 3 is the best. They are near my office(I'm the chiropractor a few doors down), so I have the opportunity to eat there often. Their lunch special is a great deal. The prices are more than reasonable. Their spicy noodles is fantastic but my favorite is the Panang. It's out of this world. They will even substitute in brown rice for you if you ask. Monica and Lynn take great care of their patrons. I highly recommend them. Check em out and tell them Dr. Steve sent you.

Thai Time was the first restaurant that I had tried Thai food, so I didn't really have any basis to compare it upon. To say the least, I have grown to really enjoy Thai food. This place is a simple, clean, no-frills place that you can get your pad-thai, spring roll, panang curry on (you can probably tell what my faves are). The service is friendly and efficient and the prices are okay. As others have said, lunch is the best time to get the best bang for your buck. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice lunch or dinner.

Thai Time is a refreshing find in this part of Clairemont -- reasonably priced Thai food with plenty of vegetarian options. Service is friendly and quick, they're happy to accomodate large groups (we're talking 20+...), and the food is on your table before you know it. It's more or less generic but good Thai -- tasty, flavorful, satisfying, but not knock-your-socks-off amazing. The atmosphere leaves a little to be desired, but it's a good place to go and have a solid meal at prices that won't break the bank. Both the fresh and fried spring rolls are a must and served in generous portions with plenty to share, and you'll likely not finish your entree either! I want to go back to try out some of the more unusual dishes, though my standby Pad See Ew is worth the return visit.

I had the red curry and it was delicious, pretty much as good as it gets. Plus, the prices are very reasonable. The eggplant in it is amazing. Also, I had a thai iced tea which which came in a large glass, and was pretty standard. The service was good and the overall experience was great!

I absolutely love this place. My friend and I go there at least once a week for lunch. It's just a typical Thai place with food and flavors you would expect, but for less than half the price during their lunch specials on weekdays. You get soup, salad, eggroll, and wonton (it's actually a wonton wrapper stuffed with a little bit of potato) and a heaping load of entrée (vegetarian) for 4.95. If you want meat, the price goes up by a lot, but in all honest opinion, their meat isn't very flavorful so just get the vegetarian. Their Thai ice tea is really good too, 1.95 and I usually get it because I feel bad for just getting a 5 dollar meal, and like I said, it's really good. The pad thai is always good, their curries are pretty amazing too (try the green and the panang curry) although I wish they would give you more rice since I only always finish half the curry with the rice they give me. But I guess it makes a nice dinner. And instead of regular ice water, they give you a pitcher of lemon soaked ice water and it is just so wonderfully refreshing. I definitely recommend this place.

We tried this place out because we received a BOGO coupon in the mail. The place is medium sized for a Thai joint. The waitress we had was very friendly, although her volume level hovered around that of a mime. Being a mumbler myself, I cannot pass judgement. Ordered our typical Thai meals: panang curry with pineapple for me, spicy noodle for the lady (both with tofu) and Thai teas. The food came out really quick, as it usually does with Thai. As soon as it hit the table though, an odd scent hit my nostrils. I've since determined it is something feline... cat ass, breath, litter.... something. At first I thought it was the food which led to a little party in my head because I've never had cat before and who of us hasn't thought of frying up Mittens on occasion? Douse it in curry sauce - could have something to share with the neighbors. In an attempt to crack this culinary puzzle, I shifted the food around all the while wafting with my free hand as they taught us in high school chem (lest I take too big a whiff and pass out from the mystery aroma). Stuck my nose right up to it.... nothing. I resolved to blame it on the patrons sitting behind us. Setting all feline thoughts aside, I dared scoop some of it onto a plate of rice and lift it to my mouth. To be honest, it was not bad, but far from the best I have had. I tried a bite of the spicy noodles and they were definitely the worst I've had. Judging by the way my girlfriend was absentmindedly pushing it around her plate as if in attempt to look busy without actually having to eat it, she did not care for it either. If the look of disappointment was not enough to persuade me of her feelings, she did subtly voice her opinion that "it was horrible"; we've been together a while so you might not be able to read between the lines as I can so, in layman's terms, she didn't like it. The teas were fine, never had a bad Thai tea experience though. We took leftovers to go. The noodles got thrown away. My curry reheated nicely; though I am now positive that the smell was not our fellow customers. Now, if only I had that level of certainty as to what the aroma actaully is. Perhaps you can give it a go and let me know, for we shan't be going there again.

Panang curry is hands-down the best dish on the menu. It's very flavorful and I recommend paying the extra $1-2 to order it with both meat and veggies. I mean, you get peppers when you order it with meat, but I like a variety of veggies. Plus, when I order it to go I receive enough to last me three meals. -well worth the extra $. I also really enjoy their spring rolls with fresh mint and their Tom Ka soup.

i'd see this place everytime i went to return movies and eventually figured i'd give it a try, so i stopped by for the lunch special. i got an order of fried spring rolls to split with a friend and the spicy basil with chicken. i was playing it safe since this was a new place and all. the spring rolls were very good. there was some flavor to them that i couldn't quite place, but i liked it so i wasn't worried. with the lunch special you also get soup, salad, a fried spring roll and a fried wonton. my friend tried the soup first and said it was somewhat fishy tasting so i gave him mine. not a big fan of seafood personally.. or soup. he drank both of them so i'm guessing if you are into that, you'll like it. the fried wonton was pretty lacking. it had almost no stuffing so all i could taste was deep frying oil. the salad was pretty standard iceberg lettuce and other default veggies with some kind of peanut dressing. the meal itself was decent. it made me happy to see lots of veggies thrown in, but the green peppers in it had a slightly bitter taste. the sauce was ok, a little thin and not as flavorful as some other places i've been to. my friend said he liked his pineapple fried rice with roast duck a lot, but pretty much only for the duck. the service was good. it did take a while for us to get the check, but that doesn't really bother me. it gives me time to finish my refill that i never would otherwise. also the prices are quite reasonable. especially the lunch specials, but the dinners as well. i don't know, i just wasn't wowed.

I love the food here. I feel like eating at Thai Time regularly has ruined all other Thai food because it just doesn't compare. We always order the pad thai, yellow curry, coconut water, and tom ka soup. This isn't a fancy restaurant but it is clean and neat with reasonable prices. The service is always good and personal.

Cheap Thai food. Story time: A fly flew right into my plate and died from how hot/spicy the fried rice was. I thought it was funny. Restaurant looks family run and has good seating and some T.Vs up. The prices are somewhat cheap as far as Thai food goes but thats because the portions are for one person as opposed to an entire table as is the norm. Still the portions leave you feeling very content (not overly stuffed but just perfectly full). I had the spicy noodles / fried rice and both were great (I liked the noodles a bit more) and added beef / chicken. Comes with an egg roll and chip-like snack with some sweet and sour sauce. I think my bill was $17 for both plates making this a very affordable and tasty meal. Very yummy!

I give this place 4 stars on prices alone. It's pretty basic Thai fare here - it won't wow you but it will definitely satisfy you. It's SO cheap here! Instead of buying a meal at a fast food joint, stop by Thai Time 3 and you'll be a happy camper and have eaten healthier, tastier food. I will go back!

Ate there for the first time the other day. The Tom Yum soup was good but not as flavorful as others I've had. Fresh spring rolls were FRESH and nummy. We had a salad with calamari (calamari just a little tough) but the veggies were fresh and the flavors well balanced. The service was very friendly, efficient and attentive. The big surprise came at the end of the meal... three little fried rice puddings... tasting of coconut. They were hot and crunchy on the outside and sweet and creamy on the inside. DELISH!

The waitresses are all very nice and the price is decent. My favorite thing to get is the spicy noodles. Their spiciness levels range from 1-3 with 3 being the hottest. I overheard one customer ask for a 4 last time though so I'll be sure to try that next time.

Thai Time III is my favorite Thai restaurant in the world. I have been to at least 20 Thai restaurants throughout California and other states and this one is the best. I've been coming here for about 4-5 years now, and have never had a bad experience. Every time I go here, somebody asks me "how was it?" My response, "How it always is...awesome." I eat basically the same things over and over, because they are just too damn good. The panang is by far the best item on the menu. I always pair a curry, either panang, massaman, or green curry with pad thai. Its just a perfect combination. One day I will branch out a little more and try more items, but when you know whats good you know whats good. The staff is very nice. Because I have been going here for years, I've gotten to know them. You may recognize I have a picture on the wall haha. They are always very helpful and attentive. Its not the most ornately decorated restaurant, its quite modest, but who really cares? You go to a restaurant for food, if I want to see a nice building ill go to a museum or something. I wasnt even going to say anything about the prices, because with how good the food is I dont really care. But it is also one of the cheapest thai restaurants ive been to. You can easily get a dinner entree for 7-8 bucks, and lunch with a small soup and salad for even less. I honestly dont know why it has taken me so long to write a review for this place, but its fitting that this is the first review ive ever written. One more point of encouragement to give continued business to Thai Time 3...Last winter they had a customer appreciation buffet, FO FREE!! I came in with 3 friends and they had pad thai, green curry, among other dishes. And they even brought me my own personal panang because they know I love it so much. We all had seconds and thirds, and I was forced to take food home. We left a generous tip for the unexpected massive amount of free food. It was one of the best days of my life. So when youre craving thai food, dont go to sab-e-lee, dont go to amarin thai, dont go anywhere not called Thai Time III.

I got wonton soup and spicy noodles with chicken to go. I am on a search for the best spicy noodles at thai places and this was average. I wouldnt want to get it again. The noodles had a dryness to it from the powder that was unevenly distributed for seasoning. The wonton soup base was exactly what I needed because I had a sore throat, but the texture of the wontons were strange. The wonton dough melted in the soup and the meat (whatever it was made of) had a tough unmeatlike texture.

I came here because I found a coupon in the newspaper and I had wanted some Pad Thai so we came here one night. Place is quaint, service is friendly, and food was all right. I got the PAD THAI, SWEET & SOUR PORK, and EGG ROLLS. The egg rolls were good, but I believe they were vegetables only. The pad thai was delicious, but I couldn't say the same for the sweet & sour pork. Maybe I'm just used to the Chinese way of cooking it? But the outside layer was soggy, the sauce was overly sour, and the pork was rubbery. Either way, the portions are really small. I'm not sure if that's just their plate size or because I had used a coupon so they gave us a lunch plate size instead. I'd still come back, but only if I had a coupon.

Very mediocre. It suffices as a place to eat when you're hungry, but not as a place that will deliver great eats. Prices are pretty cheap, and I'm a fan of cheapness so that is a big plus. But still, you have to know what's cheap. Many of the appetizers are actually significantly overpriced by comparison to what you're getting, On the other hand, many of the entrees are very well priced and deliver much more bang for the buck. I'll leave it up to you to decide what's what. Other than that, my minimal interaction with the staff was nothing to write home about. The parking lot feels kind of small, but it's not too bad. Either way, Thai Thai gets the job done when you're hungry.

I am a little torn but can't think of much to be critical of. I'm not sure if I like the place yet and I've gone in three times now. However, for the lunch specials (from 11-3p) I am a fan. I last ate at TT3 for lunch and had the Chicken Panang. With your lunch selection you get steamed rice, a wonton, veggie egg roll, salad and a bowl of soup. Along with my meal, we split an order of tofu & shrimp spring rolls. The starters - soup and salad were simple and nice little tastes. The soup was a hot and sour style with crisp zucchini squash. The side salad is iceberg with a peanut dressing. Not especially interesting but the food was fresh. The spring rolls came out shortly after and were again, alright. Maybe I would have preferred less rice noodles and more tofu. The best part of the appetizer was the peanut sauce. The ratio between the sauce and four rolls was high so we slathered our rolls well. My main dish was the favorite round of lunch and while there wasn't a ton of chicken in the bowl, I was able to stretch out the rest of a panang for a large subsequent meal. I grilled up a chicken breast and tossed it up with the sauce and ate it with some jasmine rice. The panang was complex with a bunch of great flavors and nice spice. I definitely can say that I liked the meal overall, but I wasn't stuffed. The space was cozy and the best seat is under the window/skylight. We were served by a terse but attentive waitress. I sensed that her shortness was maybe due to her limited grasp of English. When she was fielding questions from us and other tables she tried hard to be descriptive but was at a loss for words to describe a few things. I liked the taste of the food and the price - a little over $20 for two people with the tip included. I'm teetering between a 3 and 4 but if you're in the neighborhood I'd say give it a try.

Been coming here for a few months now with my wife. Great place, the ambiance is very mellow, not the most luxurious so do not come here trying to impress someone. The food is great, that is why I come here. My wife and I always get duck curry (panang or whatever we feel like having that day), pad thai w/ shrimp, and tamka soup... DELICIOUS!

Came here after my cousin's graduation and it was a bit slow for a Saturday night. The chicken panang with eggplant and fried egg was pretty filling :) The portions were pretty big. After mixing the curry and rice together-I had about two spoonfuls left that I could not finish. The service here was pretty good too.

This is the best Thai food!! The service is always super friendly and quick. I eat here all the time and have never had a problem with my food. Also, the Thai iced coffee is amazing and might just change your life!

Best place ever! We don't even go to other Thai places because we kept saying, "Thai Time III is so much better!" This place is amazing! Mock duck panang, fresh spring rolls, Thai tea boba, Thom Ka soup - JUST AMAZING!!!

  • Delise K.

Poor to mediocre food at best. My lunch special included over cooked spaghetti (listed as flat noodles) with cooked frozen vegetables and a few pieces of chicken. The salad was iceberg lettuce only with a sweet sauce from a jar. Lunch and tea with tip came to $ 11.

Thai Time 3 is a solid little thai place in Clairemont that my roommate and I have loved for years. We've been going ever since we started at UCSD, but now that we live in Clairemont, it's only five minutes from our door! I usually get the Panang Curry and she usually gets the Green Curry. I certainly have no complaints and I've never heard anything from her. I get mine "medium" spicy because I guess I'm adventurous? Takeout is quick (15 minutes) and whenever we actually sit down it's always pretty speedy as well. Lastly, it's cheap and I always have enough for leftovers the next day! Delicious!

I like this place a lot. This isn't the best thai food I've ever had but defiantly a solid four stars if you have the craving for pad Thai I would absolutely give this place a shot!

Awesome yellow curry. I was craving thai for days and this hit the spot perfectly. The lunch special prices are great. I'm for sure coming back.

This was written by my husband, but I figured I'd share since he doesn't have a yelp account. Speak khmer at this low budget restaurant and you'll get the VIP treatment as Cindy and I did once she opened her crazy-talk mouth. After the waitress realized that my hunny could understand the stream of insults pouring out of her mouth we were upgraded at once. Fortunately the food was less disappointing, but nothing to write home about. After two filling meals, the mango sticky rice was well worth the wait, although not the best we've had.

  • Tina T.

The lunch special consists of an entree, soup, salad, eggroll and wonton. Soup and salad were awful, eggroll and wonton were ok, spicy noodles were good. Prices were pretty good so I'd likely give this place another shot if I'm looking for Thai in Clairemont.

This is my favorite of the Thai Time locations. The cooks here are generally better than the other locations. The Tom Kha and Tom Yum are both delicious and can be quite spicey if this is how you request it. This is one of my favorite locations for Pad See Iew. They cook it correctly! It's spacious inside, with a standard "asian restaurant" look. The best part is that they are NOT overpriced. You're getting what you pay for, maybe even more.

We've been here a couple times as it is the favorite Thai restaurant of some good friends of ours. Last night was the first time that I came here without those friends, as we were cruising around Clairemont looking for dinner. The food was good - we ordered Panang Curry with Tofu and Garlic & Pepper Chicken. Reasonably priced with a nice bowl of white rice to go with our entrees. Good quality, though the portions felt a bit on the small side, perhaps compared to how much one would spend at other Thai or Chinese restaurants for the same entree. Elegant decor adds a touch of class, though having a TV on in the corner felt a little distracting. Polite and friendly staff. While they take Visa and Mastercard, they don't take American Express.

Cheap tasty food. Super friendly, attentive staff. There were 6 of us, but egg roll order had 5. Waitress said she'd give us one extra. Serious props for that. Only downside was 2 of the appetizers, one of which was the aforementioned egg rolls, weren't that good. Egg rolls were bland, and the crab dish we had seemed pretty Americanized. Everything else was great though, especially the curry. Overall, highly recommend.

Best Green Curry in San Diego! My boyfriend and I frequent this restaurant for take-out on a regular basis. I have tried any and every other Thai place in San Diego and nothing compares to their Green Curry. Layers of flavor, sweet, spicy, creamy. Delish!!! The Tom Yum soup, red curry, and fried spring rolls are also very tasty. Great service. Never disappointed. :)

Good portions, not too expensive, extremely casual. Just some good old-fashioned Thai food!! Get the Tom Kha, it will definitely hit the spot.

Wow....! The spicy noodles are the best I have ever had outside of Thailand! I am so happy that I found this place! I have been searching for a reasonably priced Thai restaurant with great food as well, and the place has it! The staff is super nice too! Highly recommended!

I'm very much a fan of the food! But the decor is a bit outdated, so I prefer to pick up and eat at home. I would've given 5 stars, but it is so sad how small their fresh thai spring rolls are (small will even smaller shrimp), I'm used to much larger spring rolls with more filling and bigger shrimp. Everything else here has been great though!

Very good thai food. Needed to pick a new place since my man and I moved recently and we are huge fans of thai take out. I judge thai places for the first time based on their panang curry and this is one of the best that I have had. I also like the fact that they didn't ask me how spicy, but when I got my food it had the perfect amount of heat behind it. VERY happy and will be going back soon!

Everything I've had here over the last 6 years has been good! It's in a parking lot full of eateries, so that's a little distracting! Hmmmm, maybe I actually want Peruvian food, ....no wait, Chinese....but pizza sounds good too! But it's Thai time, so I eat here! Service is courteous and the lunch specials come w/great extras!

I happened across this place one evening looking for a bite to eat. I was looking for something else, and this place looked interested. Interesting it was. The food was excellent! I had Massaman Curry with chicken and it was perfect. The chicken was tender not chewy as is sometimes the case at Thai places, the potatoes were perfect, not mushy and not hard. They didn't have a taste that suggested they we re-cooked and the sauce was delicious. I think this is the best Massaman I've ever had. The decor looked like it could use an update, and I was sad to see a TV yet again, but this seems rather too typical, and I can't really fault them for it given that every other damn place has one. Overall, very very good.

this place has the best curry...and THAI TEA!!!!! Yes the service is a little slow but they do get a good meal on...If you have never tried thai food this would be the place to start. It will open your eyes to a whole new light. I personally did not like the order of the duck, it was an extremely small bird sitting in not so good curry sauce. We had to order another plate after eating this! haha not very filling for a fat ass... :)

I came here for a friend's birthday lunch and though the exterior looked like a typical strip mall loner, man am I glad I came in! The food here was fantastic and moderately priced! The lunch specials are very cheap but have good quality. The lunch special comes with soup, a small peanut dressing salad, and the entree of your choice. I had the spicy noodles with chicken. The service was a little slow but the food tasted great. Perfect use of spices and I would definitely come here again!

Have done takeout here a couple of times. Service for take-out was quick and friendly. No complaints here. Price is alright, came down to 17+ for two dishes on our last order. 3/4 of the dishes we've tried so far are pretty good. Good enough for this place to be our go-to takeout place when we feel like getting convenient Thai food. Will order again: - Pad Thai - Pad See Ew - Fried rice with chinese sausage The one dish we won't be repeating is the Tom Kha. Once again, it contains dairy. And bell peppers for some reason. Never had Tom Kha with bell peppers anywhere else. What's wrong with you San Diego? I never had this problem in LA and OC. Where can I find a good, authentic, dairy-free Tom Kha around here????

Yes, I gave this place FIVE STARS. If I'm willing to drive 30 minutes almost every week (just for the heck of it) to eat here, there has to be something pretty exceptional about it. Thai Time III has such a friendly staff that welcomes us each time and even remembers our usual orders. Everything that I have ever ordered here has been delicious and fresh. You can definitely see the quality in their food. My favorites: Pad Thai- Best I have ever tasted here in San Diego by far! Very flavorful with the perfect mix of sweetness. Masama Curry- If you like light curry, I highly suggest this. It's just the right amount of savory flavor but not too overwhelming. Shrimp Spring Rolls- Fresh and scrumptious! Top it all off with Thai Tea w/ boba. You are good to go!

On making a courier run up to Balboa and Genesee, my 3 pm arrival was just right. The restaurant had a few late lunch patrons, and I figured it was a smart bet for a relaxing break. On entering, my first impression was that the walls are kind of dark, the artwork a little dusty and staff was otherwise occupied for a minute. After waiting near the sign that says "Please wait to be seated" for about 2 minutes, my waitress came out and waved me in, saying "Take any seat." I sat and was presented a menu and water. My waitress let me know I was just a few minutes too late for the lunch special, as it ended at 3 PM. I ordered Som Tom, Thai Hot (a secret that was shared with me at another San Diego Thai restaurant, that by saying Thai Hot, I am making the waiter/waitress know I understand the difference between American and Thai spicy) and steamed rice. Waited about 5 minutes, and my order was brought to the table. The portion size was adequate, about 1 1/2 cups; the side of rice was a bit small, about 3/4 of a cup. On my first bite, I rated the heat at about 4 (5 makes my nose run, 8 makes my forehead sweat and 10 brings tears to my eyes). Apparently, Thai Hot was not understood. The fish sauce was prominent in the salad, while notes of lime and garlic were absent. I asked for some lime and pepper and was promptly supplied with both. When I was done, the waitress came to ask if I was satisfied with my meal. I shared that the spice level was not sufficient, and she advised that next time, I should order 100 hot, as that tells her I really want HOT. Will have to try again, as the folks who were dining were expressing pleasure with their orders and I heard no one else ask for extra pepper.

I've been to Thai Time III several times. The service is great, the food is yummy. The only complaint I have is that the onions and peppers are not cooked well enough, they are still too raw for my taste. Otherwise, I would give it a 5 star.

I blame this place for my Thai food addiction!! I discovered this location by accident after buying flowers for my girlfriend from Conroy's (which is literally two stores over). Knowing that my girlfriend loves Thai food, I Yelped this location and saw the favorable reviews. Soon enough, we went and ordered our favorite dishes (mine is Panang Curry with Chicken at hotness level 2, and hers is the Pad See Ew with Tofu!) and have been routinely ordering over the phone almost every week and getting our food to go (10-15min per to go order!). I highly recommend this place if you want to get your Thai food place. A word of warning though: YOU WILL GET HOOKED!! =)

I was in the area and saw good reviews here in yelp. Got a spicy noodles with chicken and their angel fried chicken. Possibly the most bland tasting thai spicy noodles I had in my life. The fried chicken was ok, not really hard to mess up a fried chicken though.

It was good when I went but everybody got their food waaaayy before me. I got vegetarian pad sei ew. It was pretty good. I had fried banana with coconut ice cream the next time I went and they fry the bananas like spring rolls. Weird.

As Jamie below says in a previous review - the take out here is a disaster. This is the first time for us at Thai time 3 and we are very very disappointed. Our experience was exactly as the previous Yelper's review said : Rubbery, stale food which seemed like it was microwaved again and again. SIGH! Such disappointment. Maybe it makes sense to stick on to dine in and never ever, ever take out at Thai time 3?

Went here after winning a gift certificate from a fundraiser poker night. Decor was much nicer than I anticipated; I had expected a really hole-in-the-wall place, as are many Thai restaurants. Food was okay: Quality was fine, but nothing to write home about. Portions are a rather small for the soups. I've almost given up on Asian food in San Diego. 4-stars in SD = 2 or 3-stars in OC/LA.

I cant eat Thai food anywhere else! They have awesome lunch deals and great food. I definitely recommend the panang chicken or panang crispy duck and a bowl of tom kha soup. I have never had an issue with service or bad food here-everyone has always been wonderful and our regular server, Lee would even begin to remember our order. Definitely worth the time!!

My G-friend and I liked it. The first half was a 5 while the other half was a 3. Service was prompt and friendly but fell off towards the end... We had to wave down our waitress to get the bill and boxes and had to walk up to counter to get pay -- it was busy though. Food was great, water was fresh ;-), and dishes were clean! Recommend. So for improvements I would say they need to continue to check up on what customers need by continually filling waters... we never received more water.

I eat here a couple times monthly. The food is consistently good. The restaurant itself is beat up looking & the service is average though. Since I only care about the taste/quality of the food, I give it a 4 stars!

I was extremely hesitant to go to this place at first because that last Thai food I eat was in Singapore and I did not want to find myself disappointed in the lack of good asian food in San Diego as I have with so many Chinese restaurants here but after my girlfriend finally convinced me to go I got hooked. The Penang Curry was excellent (then again it has been everywhere). The Red Curry was great too. Did not care too much for the Green Curry though. But what I liked the most was the Som Tom Salad. Som Tam salad is a spicy papaya salad. Many Thai places in SD have it but call it something els and it is not quit as good. I only wish they would have made mine a little more spicier. Most of the appetizers are awesome too. Be sure to try the wings and the satay. Price is about the same as most Thai places in San Diego but for some reason I am always drawn back to this place. Great place for lunch too. You can get soup, small salad and curry with rice for under $9. I have always had excellent service just about every time I have been there except for one time when I was there for lunch and the young lady server seemed really irritated and didn't say a word to me the whole time. I will still go back. The only thing that keeps me from putting a fourth star is the fact that in southeast asia I could have gotten the same food for a quarter of the price. My personal opinion is that good Thai food should be served in some hole in the wall back alley place, not a fancy sit down restaurant because it gives you a false idea of what its really like there. But this is just the way it is in the USA and I take what I can get.

My favorite dish here is hands down the Red Curry with Chicken or Pork. The red curry has more vegetables than meat (which I like very much) including my favorite kind: bamboo shoots. I also think there is a good balance between the vegetables/meat and the sauce. The curry itself is very creamy, of medium consistency, and strong in flavor. The only thing that could make it better is if it was a little spicy. That being said, while the curry itself is good, I find that the chicken and pork are disappointingly lacking. It is obvious that the quality of chicken is nothing special, and I'm not actually sure what it is, because the texture of the chicken is different than most other things I eat that is chicken. I've also tried their Pad See-Iw. From my experience at Thai Restaurants, most Pad See-Iw I've tried taste somewhat similar, and Thai Time III's dish seems like the same old thing to me. It wasn't anything spectacular. These types of entrees are about 8 dollars when you order them with chicken or pork. Anything else, such as duck, which may seem tempting, can go up to 12 dollars, and then the price starts to become expensive and not worth the quality of the food. I recommend this place if you don't feel like cooking and are craving some Thai flavors. Another plus is they do take-out! Yay!

I come to this place now and then when I have an urge for Thai- since it's close to my work it's really my only choice unless I want to drive very far. The portions are okay- I never get stuffed but I don't leave hungry. The one thing that bothered me is I always ask for a stamp on their purple card- after 7 stamps you get one free meal up to $7. One time I forgot my card so I just got a new one- after 7 stamps (1 on one card and 6 on another) I took my stamps over and they still wouldn't give me the free meal- told me I had to finish up the card with 6 stamps. I said fine- the next time I came by I had all my stamps and the lady says "that'll be 7 cents" and I was like really? 7 cents? I have dined here on average 2 times a month and you are going to ask me to pay the 7 cents? LUCKY for me I had a dime in my pocket. For someone who is pretty regular you'd think that 7 cents wouldn't matter. Btw their spring rolls are way too expensive- $6.50? Most places charge $4... If there was another option for Thai I most likely wouldn't give this place a second glance. While the food is pretty good I think they try to cheap out on portion sizes- 2 times I have had rice missing from my entree and another time when I asked for shrimp on my spring rolls there wasn't any... I didn't complain but what's the point AFTER you've already gone to work and sat down? It's too late then!

Thai Time III is hidden in a strip mall and should be 3.5 stars but I rounded up because the server was so nice. The wife and I went for lunch and each had a lunch special-pick from 21 entrees, comes with soup, salad (both were just ok), fried wonton(not good), fried spring roll (good), and steamed rice. The better half got the Panang curry which had very good flavor. I had the spicy noodles based on the server's recommendation; it was only fair. The service was the star of the show. The ladies were very sweet to us. Worth another shot. Could be a solid 4 stars if you order the right entree. Prices were very good for the quantity and quality of the food.

I've been here probably three times total. The last time I went I asked for another spoon since the spoon I had had all this crusty food stuck on, which was disgusting. Unfortunately, the "new" spoon given to me was no different. So, I grabbed my girlfriend's spoon and THAT one was crusty also. Disgusting. Food is whatever. I ordered the spicy noodles and another noodle dish, I think spaghetti kee mow? Spicy noodles were okay, and the spaghetti kee mow was quite tasteless. However, the service was good.

  • Chuck M.

I LOVE the green or red curry here. Delicious! You don't really get a ton of it with the lunch specials, but you get a spring roll wonton and salad. But still not really enough for a nice big meal. But if you get the dinner its enough (a bit expensive though). I got the pad thai with chicken, but it was a bit dry compared to others I've had. Basically if I stick with the curry's here I love it!

Very accommodating staff and pleasant decor. There are framed Thai embroideries on the walls. My Mom and I shared one of the lunch specials (yellow curry with shrimp) with jasmine green tea and coconut ice cream with fried banana for dessert. All yummy. The fried bananas are the way I remember from the Philippines - sweet, unlike the "fried bananas" prepared in the Caribbean that are tasteless.

Answering the additional tips question, I was very doubting whether I should have said "Yes" or "Not Sure' for Waiter Service section, because it seemed that someone took our order and brought our food, but it took so much of our time, patience and effort... I was passing by this place every day, always looked at it and thought: "What a cute and comfy place for a dinner after work! I gotta try it once". Went to Yelp - reviews looked and sounded good. Well, the only thing that might bring me back to this restaurant is really short distance from my home (I can walk there), all other 90% aspects tell me to never come back. The food was ok, not bad, but not great at all either. The service was terrible... the servers seemed to be not aware which dishes are on their menu, and which are not, were coming back to reask 10 times what we ordered, forgot my appetizer, and what killed me the most is after I waited for my order for kinda long time, they asked: "Oh, so you still want that?" Hell yeah!! Don't ask me these stupid questions, why esle did I come here? The Tom Yum soup that asked for level 3 of spiciness (out of 3!) was NOT spicy AT ALL!! and kinda tasteless... Negative impression...

Massaman, Panang, Yellow Curry, Pad Thai, Pad See Iw, ... The worst part about coming here is that I have to make a decision on what to eat... SO MANY good items!! The place is very nicely decorated, with small taiwanese trinkets that bring color to the room. The water is served in glasses, and everything just makes the place seem like the food should be more expensive than it is. Then you actually taste the food, and think that the food should be more expensive than it is!!!. LOVE this place. PS. Monica (the main person in the front) is pretty funny.

This place was my go-to place for dinner if I was lazy and couldn't think of any where else to eat. I would say I've been here at least 15 times. It is nothing amazing when I compare it to all the other Thai restaurants I've been too. I only came here a lot out of convenience for me. The food is right there at average/decent. The only positive I see from this is that all the other Thai food near UCSD are worse in comparison. Service is good and fast. The restaurant is never that busy even around dinner time. I usually just get one of their curries. If you like spicy food, they actually do make it legitly spicy not the "white-man spicy" (not trying to be racist but its true cause spicy for them is not spicy for me haha).

  • R T.

I'm not much of a Thai food person to begin with, but I know what's good and bad. I had the lunch special with VERY MINIMAL portions of food with 5 pieces of tiny shrimp (that had cabbage on the bottom), one vegetable roll (the size of a lumpia), one fried wonton (b/s add-on), a not-so-appetizing salad with peanut sauce as dressing, and a sour soup made from fish sauce all for $6.50 ... what a rip off. Not to mention all tasted gross. They just seemed like they didn't know what to do; either super sour, peppery, or salty. I thought I was going to get a heart attack later. Rice was the best part. 1 star for the server being friendly.

Yummy Yummy for my Tummy.. Recently came here with two friends because of its convenient location. Turned out to be good eats, fast & friendly service. A plus: Lemon in the water. No need to spend extra on soda! mua-hahaha. That's what I like to call 'workin it. I ordered the Panang Curry dish, which was deeeelish!! Plenty of food, so much so that I had to take 1/2 of it to go. The atmosphere was laid back and mellow with fishies in a tank & plasma tv's. Their spicy levels range from 1 to 3. I ordered a 3, but it tasted more like a 1.5.. not too spicy.. A word to the wise: If you want it hot, make sure to order a 6 on the 1 to 3 grading level ;) All in all I'd give this place a B. **For those of you who don't speak Panang: Coconut based curry, pineapple chunks, potatoes, eggplant & bell pepper bliss!

We came here for the first time for a quick lunch. The five us shared two noodle dishes- pad thai and spicy noodles. Both were vegetarian @ $7.50 a dish. Portions were on the smaller side, but not bad for the price. Flavors were fine. If in the area again, I would like to try their other dishes.

I have been going to Thai Time 3 for about 2 years now, and have found their food to be consistently good and tasty. I usually get their savory Pad Thai noodles with Shrimp, and delicious Thai Tea. Though I usually order a level "zero" of spicy, the staff at Thai Time 3 are very helpful about suggesting the spicy level of a dish in accordance to the dish's ingredients and spices. For example, I ordered the Panang curry with Chicken, with spicy level of zero. But the server explained to me that the spices already in the dish would balance out my requested level of spiciness. So the result was an ambrosial dish made with fresh ingredients to whet the appetite and be enjoyed with the harmonious blend of spices. Thank You for taking the time to read this review.

Decent entrees to which I would've given only 3 stars, but the great service just bumped up my rating a notch. Service is efficient, as the waiters are not only fast but also check up on you regularly - they brought us an extra pitcher of water without us asking, even when our glasses were still half full! For about $30 (tax and tip included), we got the following: Khao soi - Highly recommended! Crunchy fried noodles swimming in a soupy concoction, heavily flavored with onion and coconut milk. I've never tried this dish anywhere else, so I don't have a standard of comparison, but I liked what I tasted. (Stay away if onions aren't your thing...I wasn't kidding about the strong onion flavor!) Panang curry - A little on the spicy side for Thai curries, but it worked. Pad thai - Nothing spectacular, though not bad either. Just your typical chicken pad thai. Though admittedly not serving the best Thai food I've ever had, this restaurant is great for a casual lunch or dinner. That said, I'll probably drop by again the next time I'm in SD.

what the shit? i thought i already reviewed this place a long time ago. anyways, i love thai time 3. their prices and portions are reasonable, the staff is friendly, the place is nice. but the thing i love about thai time III the most is the fact that they have Khao soi, which is one of my favorite thai dishes and it is very hard to find. its basically fried egg noodles in what i would call a curry like soup. ive included a picture, you should try it

This is my favorite shopping center. China Wok, Nazca Grill, and this place are all fantastic. I took a gamble on this place once with a friend, and I was blown away. Their lunch specials are great too. and you get big portions. I get the Combination Pad See Iew with all the fixings, and an iced coffee and I'm not even out twelve bucks before tip.

I've been here for both the evening meal and the lunch special and while it is obvious that they know food and how to cook it. This economy must be killing them. On the lunch special, all the salads came with one sliver of cabbage and one sliver of carrot under some iceberg lettuce. The whole meal had the feel of how sparse can we make the meal. They have a 4.99 special but if you add meat or tofu it quickly escalates to 8.99. At dinner we asked for brown rice. It costs 1 dollars, for a scoop. Ask for a second scoop and guess what they charge you again. Bottom line while the flavors were good nobody had a good time. As I looked at the other tables it seemed the other diners were also lamenting their choice of restaurant. The experience wasn't worth the money and that is 2 stars. Mike

We've been to Thai Time III 4-5 times and it's been consistently good. The Tom Kha is delicious, super rich and creamy, and probably full of calories, but totally worth it :) My boyfriend loves the shrimp dishes, and the curries are the perfect balance of coconut milk and spicy. The only problems are that sometimes, after they deliver your food, the servers disappear, and you're sitting with your leftovers for a long time; also, we've had servers who completely did not understand English; and once we ordered our food at a 3 spicy level, and it was incredibly spicy and what we would consider a 7-8 at other places. Definitely check it out if you like Thai at all; it's very reasonably priced and delicious!

Just went here for lunch for the first time and was kind of underwhelmed. I guess I had been expecting more since the friend who took me here raves about it all the time. We both ordered the curry lunch special which includes a spring roll, fried wonton, rice and a soup and salad starter all for around $9. The fact that the price was decent and the red curry pretty good is why I'm giving them three stars instead of two. The soup was forgettable, the salad had a tasty peanut sauce, and the spring roll and wonton were pretty average. Though not as hot as I like it, the curry was nicely flavored and had plenty of chicken and bamboo shoots. The real downside to my experience was the weak service. Guy up front grunted at my friend and I to follow him to a booth in the back. As soon as we sat down, he asked us what we wanted, I seriously had not even touched the menu yet. We asked for a few moments and he stood there staring at us while we glanced over the menu. After ordering, we did not see him again until time to pay (a girl dropped our food.) Once he handed off the bill, he did not come back to pick up our card. My friend had to literally chase him down ten minutes later just to pay. All in all, poor service, mostly average food, I probably won't be back.

Coming here made me very sad... I can't believe I lived within walking distance to this place for 2 years and never tried it. I must have been blinded by the Pizza Hut next door(throws up in mouth). It is very comforting when you walk into a place that the person leaving mentions that this place is awesome and the food is on point. As the person recommended I get the panang curry to go with seafood. The panang curry with seafood is unlike any seafood combo I have gotten at a Thai restaurant. It had Calamari, green mussels, scallops, fish, fish balls (never had this ever in a Thai curry) and other delectables. The panang curry was one of the best I have had in San Diego, it had a very rich taste to it, maybe extra palm sugar? I recommend this place solely on it's food and service. I have not dined inside, but I plan on coming back here when in the area. You need some of their food in your stomach. Trust me.

Hands down on their Tom Kha!! I've tried it before but this one was rich and flavorful a total hit on all of my three senses! Sight, smell and of course taste. The crab fried rice was delectable plus the chicken pad see iew was very satisfying.. Prices are very reasonable and plus their open on Sundays now from 3pm - 9pm.. I will definitely become a regular at this place..

Great little place and very inexpensive too. I really enjoy their Special Fried Rice, and the yellow curry. If you live in the area, this should be your choice to pick up food on your way home. They are open on Sundays.

Hmmmm, I'll be generous and give them two. Actually, I guess that's fair, because the food was decent. I agree with Gary R. and would add that even Die Hard III was good. The wifey and I got there at 2:59 and apparently lunch ends at 3, so we were out of luck for that one. We got the mixed seafood firepot ($11.95), red curry shrimp ($9.50) with brown rice (+$2), and the spicy lad nar with tofu ($6.95). The firepot came out first and was pretty small and very disappointing. It was a clay pot with fire under it and literally two mussels, two shrimp, two fish balls, and a grip of fake crab. It was not spicy at all, lacked lemongrass flavor, but was otherwise, decent. Definitely not a ringer. The red curry shrimp had about 10 shrimp in it and was a very small bowl. That's about a buck a shrimp. The curry itself had just about no fish sauce in it, no heat to it at all, and way too much coconut milk, so it was a bit too sweet. They gave us barely enough brown rice for the two of us for two extra bucks, which was pretty weak. Finally, the spicy lad nar was definitely not spicy in the least. Kirk from mmm-yoso often mentions the "clump of noodles in the bottom of the bowl" at vietnamese restaurants. Well this was the clump of noodles in the middle of the plate, all stuck together, with the vegetables, sauce and tofu poured over it, but not mixed in. We really had to cut chunks off of the clumped up noodles as the were really stuck together. Needless to say, we were very disappointed in the quality considering the price. We could have gone to Thai House, Di-Chan, or even Jade and paid the same price for much better food. We will not be back any time in the near future unless everything else is closed for some reason and we must have a thai fix.

I ate here years back when i was waiting to get my nails done nearby and it was ok. i had the pad thai lunch special and it was nothing to write home about. recently the craving of Thai came over me and i decided to order a bunch of different things from this spot and try to give it a proper shot. First off, i got the Tom Kha with chicken. The broth was yummy and creamy but the chicken was like shoe leather. It was almost like chicken jerky. I drank the broth and ate the veggies but left the chicken. next was the chicken larb. the chicken was juicer but there was way too much lime juice. it was also cold. there really wasn't much to the dish and i felt like it wasn't enough food for the 8.95 i paid. i like a little spice and i asked for an 8 but there was no heat whatsoever. I have never ordered Som Tom before but it sounded amazing. i ended up throwing most of it away. it was really fishy and the papaya was really hard. I'm not sure if that is what its supposed to be like but YUCK! The Pad See Iew with chicken was my favorite. aside from the shoe leather like chicken the noodles and veggies and spices were amazing. i asked for an 8 and i think it still lacked much spice. the last thing i got was the Jungle Curry with chicken spice level 8. this had some spice but i still had to add some shirracha. the chicken was once again tough but not nearly as bad as the previous dishes. lots of eggplant, which is my favorite, and it was super rich and creamy. its 9pm as i write this and i would love to order some quick Thai and Thai Time is open just a couple of blocks from my house. unfortunately i would rather eat leftover turkey enchilada casserole from two nights ago then eat overpriced Thai food with inedible chicken. i only eat chicken and fish so I'm a little stuck when it comes to this place. the flavors were there but the spice level wasn't and I'm just horrified to think what they did to that poor chicken to make it taste like it did. and extra star for the really nice woman who took my order. while waiting she offered me water and kept my glass refilled as i chugged it. she also gave me an order of sticky rice which I'm not a fan of but appreciate the sentiment.

PROS: green curry A+. some of the best tasting thai is in little places and this one is a gem. waiter attentively answered questions on some thai noodles we were looking for, we're not thai so that helped, he brought the right ones out! CONS: they will charge you for ANY extras. bf wanted honey on the side for his tea but it costs extra. seriously? when he asked if it would cost extra to already have honey in his tea the waiter said "I think if I put some real quick they won't notice". thanks but what?! all in all the taste is worth it. you won't know who your waiter is but be aggressive, flag them down and they'll come!

Great place to come eat for a reasonable price and good taste. Servers are really nice and most of the time it isn't very crowded. Parking can get a little tight in the small shopping center. Definitely recommend it!!!!

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE THAI RESTAURANT!!! My favorite dishes: Yellow curry with chicken, and tom yum soup with seafood. I am in love with their yellow curry! It is perfect! I don't know what it is, but it is soooooo goooooood! Their tom yum soup is really delicious too! It's sourness is on point! When you get it for dinner, and you get it in a hot pot, you'll be amazed at how great it tastes! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! My only disappointment would be their cheese wontons. I expected them to be filled with cream cheese, but the last time that we ordered it... I think they used American. LOL! Fail? The servers are so sweet and cute with their accents. It's hard to flag them down for water so we just ask for a pitcher, or two. MMMMMM, HOW ABOUT SOME HOT YELLOW CURRY ON A RAINY DAY? MMMMMMM. Oooh, I have to go to the DMV soon... and being this place is close to the DMV... I might have to stop by again!!!

Their Thai food is not too bad. If you live in North County or someplace far from Thai Time, it's not worth the visit. Again, the food isn't bad or anything but just wasn't amazing Thai food. But then again, amazing Thai food in the La Jolla area and vicinity is hard to come by. A lot of their chicken dishes use thigh meat and other dark varieties. If you like that, good. If not, then avoid the chicken dishes. The noodle dishes like pad see-yew and rad nah were okay but had way to many boiled carrots. Their calamari is a no-no. That's a warning....(it's very tough and the batter isn't good).

The Thai Time Fried Rice is really good. Shrimp, chicken, pineapple and cashews in fried rice. Delicious and perfect for a wimp like me that can't handle the spicier dishes. They generally aren't very crowded so you get seated and served fairly quickly.

In a small shopping mall and family owned. I have been here several times and have not been disappointed yet. Last night I had Stir Fry Chicken, Spring Roll, one beer and a small bottle of Saki. It was all very good. The place has a nice atmosphere, the bathrooms are clean ( important to me)and most important the food taste fresh and flavorful. I would recommend this place to my close friends and family. Update: Its been about a year since I have been back. The place seems to have gone down hill a little. The food portions where small. Ordered the seafood platter and there was not that much sea food. Also ordered vegetable coconut basil it was good but the portion was soooo small too.

I recently lived very close to this location and was told by my roommates that it was a great Thai restaurant. I wouldn't say it is the best place in San Diego (I'm still looking, so maybe it is) but it is definitely a great place to grab takeout for lunch. Their lunch specials are $4.95 and come with rice, a fried won ton, and a spring roll with dipping sauce. My favorites: The yellow curry lunch special with tofu (they charge an additional amount for substituting "vegetarian" with tofu, which was a bit confusing to me) and the Tom Kha with shrimp. Unlike some other Thai places I've been to, they don't ask you what level of spiciness you want but I find that a lot of places don't. I personally think the seasoning is perfect. I'll miss this little place!

  • Jennifer K.

You must come here during lunch. Their lunch specials are affordable and give you a decent amount of food for what you're paying for. The lowest priced special is $4.99! Sign me up. The wait staff is always kind and courteous and ready with that jug of lemon-infused water. If you're a regular customer, like me, they'll remember to give you your own carafe of water. Always appreciate that. Amongst the many that I've tried, I love the Pad Thai, Spicy Basil, and Pineapple Fried Rice. Like at any other thai restaurant, you get to choose chicken, tofu, veggies, beef, pork, or shrimp. I usually go for the veggies or tofu because it comes out just too delicious. I always leave satisfied and with leftovers. Some are complaining that the portions are too little, but I think it's just right, especially if I get leftovers to reheat at home!

I LOVE this place!!! It's a cute restaurant with a lot of sunlight and a comfortable atmosphere. I'm always bringing my friends who visit SD here and begging my SD friends to come here for dinner when I'm craving Thai food (which is basically always!). The food is really good, especially the Pad Thai, which is what I get 80% of the time. Their Panang Curry is also really good! The portions aren't bad for the price (around $7-$9 a plate), and they're good with keeping your water jug filled :}. The one reason it didn't get a perfect score is sometimes it feels like they're understaffed and it takes a while for the orders to get into the kitchen :(( leaving me starving!! Hahah but this place is pretty amazing :DD!

  • Diane D.

The food here is really great! Although I recommend only coming here during lunchtime because it can get really expensive. For a party of four, the bill can go up to $30-80. Just go here during lunchtime, and get their lunch specials. With this, you get a small serving of salad with peanut dressing, one small serving of soup, one cheese wonton, one spring roll, one entree. I definitely recommend their Pad Thai, Sweet and Sour Chicken, House Special Salad, and Pineapple Fried Rice. There's lot of parking, although the parking space is cramped. Not a lot of people go here so it can get pretty silent, which can be a good or a bad thing. The servers are nice and generous with giving you water. The ambiance is not that great, unless you sit by the window. I like their utensils though.

This is one of my favorite thai places in San Diego! Their prices are reasonable but don't let the cheapness throw you off because the food is good! If you stop by during lunch, they have lunch specials that comes with soup and salad, and i think a dumpling. So cheap! But I usually come for dinner. Dinner portions are obviously bigger. My favorite is the Panang Curry. It's REALLY good. It's sweet and it has coconut milk. I think I'm in love with coconut milk. It tastes good with everything! Mmm, and one time we were there (when there was practically no one else there), they gave us a complimentary dessert, mango sticky rice. Mmmm, it was DELISH. It had coconut milk in it too. Maybe that's why I like it so much. Anyways, if you want any recommendations, I'd say the Panang Curry, Pad Thai's pretty good too, and Pad See Ew. I haven't really tried anything else, cuz these are usually my fave. And so far they have not failed me!

I like this place. My partner and I go regularly and got their tom kha last time. Yum. Love the mushrooms they put in the soup. The chrysanthemum tea is fab! We end off the meal with mango sweet rice which is prob better when the fruit is in season. Great lunch specials!

(+) - thai tea 2 bucks - reasonable prices (-) - portions are kind of small -wish they had sriracha at their tables I wouldn't say the food is the best but I had a coupon for buy one entree get one free with two drinks and so we got two entrees (pad see iew with chicken and vegetarian spicy noodle) and a jasmine tea and a thai ice tea for 15 bucks! (12 for food 3 for tip) Totally worth it. My friend killed her spicy noodle, my pad see iew didnt come spicy so I had to add a crapload of spicy stuff from the table containers (I wish they had sriracha at their tables). The noodles tasted kind of overly oily maybe? I'm not sure how to describe it and the chicken wasn't the most flavorful but I still liked it overall. The thai iced tea was really good too, comes in a tall cup and its only 1.95

Reasonably price Thai food in a very desolate area of the Clairemont area. You definately can't see this place driving along Genessee and I wouldn't have found this place without the help from The Entertainment Book. The combination of chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, & calamari entree w/giner sauce was an above average dish with a lot of vegetables with a very mediocre sauce. The prize dish of the night though was the Thai Time Basket house specialty. The description of the dish is a crispy noodle basket topped with jumbo shrimp, chicken, carrot, green and red bell pepper, green onion, cashew nut, and bamboo shoots. I thought it was gonna be some crispy noodles like the hong kong style crispy noodles at a chinese restaurant but this was literally a crispy fried basket of noodles (in the actual shape of a basket). It was quite an interesting way to have your dinner. The sauce had just the perfect mix of original flavor and spiciness. I went on a Monday night at 7:30PM and it was quite sad to see that my father and I were the only customers in the restaurant. I really don't understand how they stay in business with that kind of dinner turnout and I sure hope that their business on other nights are a lot better because they do deserve better. The one waittress that was working was extremely nice and it's too bad there wasn't more people to tend to during our dinner stay.

I would give it 3.5 Stars. I got the green curry with duck and I would say it was pretty good. The portions are kind of small though. My friend got the yellow curry with chicken and that was pretty good too. The service was nice and quick. The food came out in 10 minutes and they came by to give us water. Prices aren't too bad either! I will probably come back next time I'm looking to get a quick thai food fix

Amazing food, great portions, and good service! An extra star since I've never had to wait for a table. I've tried experimenting with different dishes, but my go-tos are definitely the pad see yew, panang curry, thai time fried rice, and pad thai. Their portions are rather big (especially if you order to go!) and their curries can last me three or four meals. You also can't beat their week day lunch specials- full dishes with a couple of fried items, salad and soup for $5 (with no protein)!

I love Thai Time III. There are several Thai Times around town, but Three is the place to go. The strip mall can throw anyone off, but the spicy noodles make all worth while. My friends and I come here so much they know us by name and what we order. The spicy noodles are the best I have had anywhere (including Thailand), but make sure they look super red or send them back. They started scaling back on spice and it just isn't the same. I am totally addicted to the yellow curry with potatoes. It is so thick and creamy that I just know the coconut cream is going to send me to the fat farm, but totally worth it. The lunch special is a great deal. You get pretty much any of the standard entrees with soup, salad, egg roll, and golden triangle for about $7 depending on your veggie or meat preference.

I love this place. Everything is very reasonably priced, they get your order to you in a hurry, the portions are large, and the taste is the best. Monica is great and personable.

Thai Time III is a small, family operated Thai restaurant hidden in that weird little mall next to the dental building and El Pollo Loco. Depending on what time you visit parking is usual a bear (which is only during Lunch and Dinner times, you know, when nobody's around...) so I recommend parking near the medical building instead. Prices are good for individual meals, making Thai Time III a good place for good food. Everything I've always gotten is usually less than about $8 dollars, so toss on a soda and some type of side and you can have yourself a reasonably good time for around $15. The important thing to keep in mind is that Thai Time III has no immediate competition in the vicinity, so they're not trying too hard to win your affection. They are what they are and they're a simple Mom & Pop Thai place and that comes across in the décor, service, and food. Portions here vary, though I almost always run out of rice for my curry (any of which is terrific). It feels and tastes homemade which is nice and they can make it spicy if you ask. Thai Time's service is polite, if sparingly so. I usually just get all of my needs communicated in one fell swoop (food, drink, sides...) and just let it roll into place. For me Thai Time III is one of those low-key places I go to for cheap, solid tasting food after a hard day. I go with friends and family to unwind and have a nice dinner. My likelihood to recommend this place would depend upon your attitude, the potential eater. If you want superior food, Hillcrest is where you want to turn your eyes. In my experience service quality is usually worse elsewhere than what I get at my local Thai Time III. The quieter atmosphere is conducive to my personality and hopefully yours as well. As with all reviews, I can only recommend that you try it and decide for yourself!

Love, LOVe, LOVE it. It's dirt cheap for good food. Nuff said. And the thai iced teas are ji-guh-normous. Mock duck = fabuloso. Just take my word for it and go dammit.

Two words: PANANG CURRY!!!! I don't know what they put in that creamy concoction, but it has got me hooked! (Still wish the portions were larger for my "hungry-man-sized" appetite though)

Every time I gove TTIII a chance, they always disappoint. I've eat at all the Thai Times, and this one is the worst. If you're a Thai food restaurant and can't serve good Pad Thai, you shouldn't be serving Thai food. Stick with the other Thai food locations along Convoy.

Okay, so I have been going here a lot lately. Now before I give my positive review I will admit that I haven't lived in San Diego for the past 5 years and I haven't done much exploring yet.. but-- I think the food here is really good! I love their Tom Kah soup! Suuure I wish they were a little cheaper (who deosn't) and I wish they would SMASH that huge TV they have on their wall but other than that it's just really close to my mom's house! Also, lets not forget the crazy name, I love this Thai Time III? They win my heart just for that.

  • Jonathan N.

Decent. I got a lunch special. Soup was pretty good, salad had a peanut dressing that was way too dense and heavy, phad thai had good flavor but was too heavily condimented as well. The Panang was the best because you cannot over-sauce a sauce. Too much competition to recommend this place.

  • Joseph L.

The reviews I have read here deeply concern me. Perhaps Clairmont is so lacking in culture that anything out of the ordinary (such as a Burger King or Taco Stand) automatically gets 5 stars? Or maybe this place has been sold recently? I dunno, but this was seriously lacking in character and flavor in both the food and decor categories. The mushrooms in my soup were from a can. Everything served to me could have been made just as well at home. Service was polite enough. I love Thai food, and therefor easy to please. but this place was a let down. There was just something lacking.

My husband and I love Thai Time III! The yellow chicken curry and pannang curry is DELISH. So is their pad Thai. The prices can't be beat either! The interior is a little outdated, but i think it's part of it's charm. The food speaks for itself, and the prices are super affordable. Yummy!!

One of the best neighborhood thai places I've been to. Consistently good Tom Kha soup and Spicy Noodles. Panang is good as well. I was disappointed in the Beef and Mint salad which sounded so good but came out very dry, lacking flavor and tough as shoe leather..big disappointment on that one...but overall really good and inexpensive.

The restaurant is never full... I've been there twice, and my boyfriend and I were the only ones in the restaurant at lunchtime. There were only two other occupied tables when we went for dinner. Prices are cheap for lunch, and the food is average. But what was up with the egg rolls? They tasted like soap!

Thai Time in Clairemont is a hidden gem in a small strip mall. You can't beat the prices especially for the portions that are served. We came to Thai Time w/a free entree coupon, with purchase of two drinks and an entree of equal or lesser value. We started with two Singah beers, nice and cold, chicken satay (5 skewers), shrimp spicy noodles, and cashew spicy chicken, and ended it w/a sweet rice custard accompanied with a sweet coconut milk style pudding. We had all of this for a grand total of $26 and change. I couldn't belive it! I asked for level 3 hot, which is the highest they go....and they surley delivered! The shrimp and chicken were juicy and not overcooked as some Thai places can be. Overall, delicious and speedy service! I would be willing to pay more for their food :) Awesome!

I recommend the Spicy Basil - it's good! And it's the only thing I've ever gotten here. I've tried small bites of my family's orders - theirs was good, but I thought the Spicy Basil was better. The Mango and Sweet Rice desert is great. Overall, the food is great. The service is nice. One time was an exception however. My cousin got something she didn't order, yet the waitress insisted that my cousin ordered what was in front of her. After some moments of arguing, the lady left to the kitchen to finally get what my cousin ordered. Everything is pretty great though. I recommend it to all (except the people who dislike flavor in their food). I wish I came here more often.

Initially I didn't want to come here cause we were close to Convoy street for Asian food. But then... what da hell, mind as well. It was clean inside. The lunch was not expensive. From 4.99+. Food came out fast, they know how to feed hungry customer with a bowl of soup and salad first. The lunch special came with my chicken curry, a piece of fried wonton and an egg roll. The fried wonton had nothing inside, so I inhaled that first with the sweet and sour sauce. The egg roll was ok. Overall: Not bad, not bad at all for the price I paid. Price: Decent Quality: Fresh ingredients. Clean. The Green chicken curry I had actually taste like curry, unlike some other Thai places. I tasted lemon grass and coconut milk in my curry. The curry was almost the way I like it. Also tried the Chicken Spicy noodle, it was surprisingly pretty good. Not really spicy, but I think that's because there's a lot of non-Asians there. Service: Fast and friendly service. Parking: Not a lot, but there's a bigger parking lot adjacent to it.

Its funny how I found out about this place. Before I moved in with my ex we tried it out because her old apartment used to be near Thai Time in North Park, which is I guess separately owned from Thai Time 3, but they share the same menu. I asked before and they said that they weren't owned by the same people, but they were kind of affiliated in a way. Anyway, when we started talking about getting a place together, we ended up eating here for dinner. The house we ended up looking at and eventually moving into was like a block away from this place. It seems like Thai Time 3 is the center of the universe, apparently. Now that we have gone our separate ways, and I have moved back to San Carlos, I still make the drive on an almost weekly, sometimes even biweekly basis to come back. The staff knows me by name. I will call and they know already what I want to order. I guess I am that predictable. I lost my watch here and they kept it safe for me in the register until I returned. I have a lot of memories at this restaurant. And they have, in my humble opinion, the best Thai food in San Diego hands down (and I have been to just about every Thai place on here). Its so good that I will drive the 30 minutes round trip to get their food, and there are like at least 15 other Thai restaurants that are closer. Try the Tom Yum soup. Its the best I have found. Their Tom Kha is also delicious. The curries are all to die for. The pad thai is great, the pad woon sen is delicious. The cashew nut chicken is amazing. Everything is well prepared. The amount of variation on the menu is enough to keep you trying new things and not getting tired of the same old thing, yet the individual dishes always taste consistent, which is a huge plus to me. I hate it when i go to Thai places and their food is AMAZING one day and BLAND the next. Thai Time 3 its always AMAZING and full of flavor. I must warn you though. If you continue to come back to this place, it will consume you. It will somehow become the center of your universe as well. Maybe you will meet your next date here for dinner, and have to make some life changing decision. It will become part of your memory as a permanent milestone and landmark. But don't worry. You're going to like it here.

I LOVE THAI TIME III. My fiance and I have been coming here for years and order the same thing almost every single time. I usually get the thai time fried rice with chicken, he gets the pad thai with chicken. Then we usually share the tom ka soup. If we can, then we also tend to get their lunch specials, which are an excellent deal. Be warned that they will only accept credit cards for bills over $10. So make sure to have cash if you're stopping by for a lunch special. I think that this is the best of the thai time restaurants. I have been to the other two, and although this one is probably the most shabby looking, it definitely has the best food. Nice people work there too. Try it, you won't regret it.

I used to not like this place very much but they've improved! YAY! Which is good, there aren't many Thai food places still around this area. The food still is mostly some veggies with shavings and small pieces of chicken. I do love their curry though. They have a new young server who's really nice.

Very good Thai. I love the spring rolls and the classic Thai plate. You can't go wrong with the lunch specials, either. And the people who work there are great!

We've been going to this place for years now. My husband and I love to order their lunch specials. Good price for a great meal especially in this economy. Plenty of food to leave you feeling satisfied without feeling overly stuffed. The staff is is always friendly and knows exactly where our favorite booth is. Love the salad & soup given while waiting for our meal as well as the vegetable roll & fried wonton that always accompany our food. The meat dishes are good (so i've heard) but I love ordering my meals with tofu which they always give plenty of. My husband would like to recommend the green curry which he always orders. If you're going for dinner I recommend their soups which come in an earthenware pot over a flame. It stays nice and hot throughout the meal and great for sharing.

Great food! Very fast service. Our server was rather young, and seemed to either be new, inexperienced, or just not that good. I had asked for a drink menu since she took it away after we ordered. (Silly girl) She returned with it, then never ever came back to get an order. So out of feeling neglected, I decided I would not order another, and hence her tip would not be as good either. Ambiance is not fantastic, but hey, its in a strip mall. Overall good Thai food if you can't get to Celadon.

Thanks to the yelp app, I was able to find this place on the fly right before closing time. Placed a take out order and it was ready when they said it was. Pad Thai noodles were decent and had some good flavor. Prices are reasonable too.

Such a disappointment . Slow to make my food and the food was SO mediocre. go somewhere else instead is my suggestion!

I got the red curry. I was going to give them 3 stars but I bumped them up to 4 because they offer mock duck or chicken curry for only ~50 cents more than just the vegetable curry. Yummy! My friend ordered the pad ped. It was kinda meh... I wouldn't recommend ordering that. The prices here are cheaper than Thai House but the serving sizes are also smaller so it's a good place to go if you don't want to get too full! I would say the quality of food is very similar to Thai House though, which is pretty good!

I went to Thai Time III on Genesee (in the park and shop with the Subway) with my fiance and a friend on the basis of other Yelp reviews and the proximity to our house. I'm pretty new to Clairemont and it's exciting to try all the Asian restaurants in the area. Thai Time was pretty empty on this Monday night - I imagine take out is its forte. There was a lot to choose from on the menu and a lot sounded good. We ordered the Panang Curry which was delicious, the Choo Chee BBQ Chicken, which was pretty good, and the Spicy Stir Fried Shrimp, which was good, not spectacular. We could have used more rice to start, but they brought a second round so that was fine. And at the end of the meal, it was $50 for three for dinner and a drink each (two beers and a wine). Really can't complain about that! The service was fast and I was full when we left. Can't beat that! Now I just need to try the cheap lunch specials ......

I've lived in Thailand for a short period of my life. And this place just is not very good but I thought the waitress was really cute. I might become a regular if I see her again the next time I come.

Good Thai Food that's close to where I live. Pretty cheap too. I love their curry meals however some of their Entree's left me still hungry. They are always very polite and fast with the food which is great for take outs. Never seems busy either, not sure if that's a good thing or not but it's generally quite and there is always somewhere to sit.

I hear this place has really good deals for lunch. I have never been but will definitely try it sometimes. We had spicy chicken noodle, spicy tofu noodle, and classic thai noodle (around $8 each). I liked it because it wasn't greasy at all. Their chrysanthemum tea tasted like it came from the can that I often buy at an Asian grocery store hahaha. The food is a little cheaper than a lot of other Thai places and quality is comparable. It's not the best tasting Thai food, but definitely worth your money.

Two words: cheap lunch. CHEAP LUNCH! Actually, it's not only cheap, it's also incredibly good. I make a point to schlep on over here a couple times per week just to take advantage of the special. $5 for a vegetarian entree, egg roll, salad and soup? Unheard of, especially when it comes with service and quality this good. The waitresses are a little detached initially, but they're knowledgeable and will help you with whatever you need. Constant water refills, and so on. Expect to get the check 3/4 of the way through a lunch meal...after all, who orders a 4 or 5 dollar dessert on a 5 dollar lunch? I imagine that their service would be a bit more attentive during dinner, but it's perfect for a quick and informal lunch. These guys get the meaning of "spicy". It means "please dear god NO I DON'T WANT HOT SAUCE!" and they bring the hot sauce anyways just in case. Minus one star, only because the "vegetarian" soup that comes with lunch has a little bit of fish sauce. So if you're like me, go with a friend who likes the soup.

Tucked away in a very nondescript strip mall is one of our favorite restaurants. We love the lunch specials. The vegetarian panang curry and all the other selections which are vegetarian start at $4.95. meat lunch specials start at $6.95 which is still a steal!! You will receive a small bowl of Tom Yum soup and a small bowl of greens with peanut dressing. The main dish comes with a large portion of the main dish you order with lots of rice, egg roll and fried won ton. This restaurant is family run and the owner who is always there is so nice and friendly. The service is fast as well.

Do you ever get so carried away with errands that you forget to eat? That was my day yesterday - let's just say after my study group, a harrowing trip to Costco (never go on a Saturday, NEVER) and a stop at the shopping center on Balboa and Genessee, I was overheated, irritated, and I had the hungry-shakes. Wah. I pulled into the shopping center across the street and headed toward the Subway. As I pulled into a spot I noticed Thai Time. Thai always trumps sandwiches, so in I went. Unfortunately I got there at 4, and the lunch special ends at 3. But good to know that the place has lunch specials Monday thru Saturday (most places just have them on weekdays). So, I got the dinner-size Green Curry and a soda and I ended up paying about 10 bucks. The food was super delish, but it was kind of awkward going there alone. I read my magazine as I ate and I think I weirded out the staff. Also, when I came back from the bathroom, there was a waitress waiting for me. Not to refill my drink, or ask me if I needed anything... I guess to make sure I came back? Anyway, it was really nice to end my stressful day eating delicious curry in a comfy booth in an air-conditioned restaurant. I wish I could end every day like that! I'd definitely come back here if I was in the neighborhood.

I am a big fan of Thai food and have frequented the Thai Time family of restaurants in San Diego for a few years now. I was surprised on how busy this location was on a Saturday afternoon. I could see why as the lunch special was a great choice, especially with the super basic but tasty soup and salad appetizer before the meal. I went with the mixed vegetable w/ chicken option at a level 3/3 spice level. Note that their spicy scale is quite lower than normal in my opinion. First the scale is only from 1-3, while I am used to a 1-10 scale. This threw me off a bit and even at a 3, the spice level was comparable to a 4/10 at other Thai establishments in San Diego. Due this reason, I give them a 3.

This place is amazing. Their curry is pretty much heaven and they can make it spicy for you. I love that. Other Thai places will shy away from the hot stuff when they see a white face even if you ask for burning but this place throw the peppers on. Wooooooo. Great service too with a wonderful staff. Love love love Thai time

I have only had take out from this restaurant and everything I've ordered has been delicious. I am not sure I would want to sit down to eat there, but the food is fantastic. I keep coming back for their curry.

Just your typical casual eatery. Everytime we go, we haven't had to wait. Decent food. Service was good. Papaya salad was good. Spicy is way spicy so I ways have to tell them medium a little kick. Portions are great. This place attracts a lot of neighborhood locals. Check it out if you're in the area.

This remains one of my favorite places to eat in all of San Diego. It is hidden in the middle of a strip mall and completely unexpected, but once you're inside and seated you're bound to be impressed by the delicious food. Everything tastes like it was chopped and prepped just for you by your mom on Christmas morning. The Hot Pot soup is crazy good and comes in a fondue style pot that keeps the soup bubbling hot while you're at the table. I highly recommend the Mixed Shrimp Tempura, Orange Chicken, and any of the Curries. The Pad Thai is also great and comes in a giant portion so be ready to share. This place is great, perfect for a cheap, filling, and delicious meal out!!

Second time here. First time was before Yelp! The food was "just-okay" and i give it a 3.5 stars. We had the We had the classic Thai and sweet & sour tofu. They were both just alright. If you want what i consider the best Thai Food, for the price in San Diego; it is still the Antique Thai Cuisine. I will try this place again; maybe for the lunch menu or something else.

I came here during lunch. There special isn't too bad. It was very cheap but not worth it. The soup that comes with the meal was cold. I ordered spicy noodles with chicken and I did not like. I have had better Thai. There was no flavor or spices to it. I asked for the spice rack hoping that putting my hot stuff on it would help. But it didn't The side of egg rolls had no flavor. Overall, I just wasn't impressed.

Awesome! Great food. Best curry and the best Satay in San Diego. The salad you get in the beginning is great with the yummy peanut sauce as dressing. I usually get the green curry with shrimp and after my stomach is always very satisfied.

This is my favorite little hole in the wall Thai place in Clairemont. The Panang curry is consistently good, lots of veggie dishes, and generous portions. This is one of our favorite local take out places.

DELICIOUS. Friendly service, mom and pop feeling. The pad thai noodles are the best :)

  • Seamus O.

NOT Thai Time! Ordered the mixed fish dish, pretty disgusting, use cheap fish and crab replacements, the fish balls were hard tasteless and provoked me to vomit, sour tasting mussels, chewy chunks of 'octopus', slimy slithers of some protein based fish substitute, sloppy over cooked vegetables. The shrimp were not cleaned either. Paid over $15 for this pile of dogs diarrhea. MSG is done here in large doses.

  • Greg S.

Spicy noodles with calamari, very good. 2 on their low granularity 1-3 scale was very hot. Can't beat the coconut ice-cream they serve with fried banana. What makes this place is how they turned a strip-mall joint into a quiet relaxing little spot.

  • Karen C.

overall it is a decent thai restaurant serving most standard thai dishes. to be honest i've only ordered a few items off the menu, and most of them came out pretty good, nothing amazing... until i tried the "chan poo" or crab fried noodles. most thai restaurants i have been to do not list any dishes remotely like crab fried noodles on their menu, and a select few are willing to prepare something close to my description (i.e. pad se ew with crab meat and no broccoli, etc). the first thai restaurant i had ever eaten at served a delicious crab fried noodle that i absolutely fell in love with, and thai time iii is the first restaurant i have found that compares to it. i order it once or twice a week, every week, and i would recommend it to anyone that enjoys eating thai food and loves crab! the restaurant is not fancy at all, super casual so you don't have to get dressed up for some fantastic noodles, and it doesn't hurt that they serve dessert at a reasonable price if you have space when you're done.

My favorite Thai place, and Im very picky about thai food cause its my most favorite food ever! I moved to Clairemont over a year ago and was looking for a good lcoal thai place, I found Thai Time3 on yelp and checked out their menu. I was intially really impressed with their prices and selction, then I got to sample what they had and I was in love. My favorite items are the chicken larb salad, tod mun pla (fish cakes), fresh spring rolls, green curry, pad se ew, and fried rice. I most often get food to go, which is super fast, like 10-15 and its ready, but I often come in with my Hubby and 14 mo. old. The people are so friendly and know us well now. Great place! Their sister restaurants Thai Time 2 (point loma on midway) and the origianl one are equally good too!

    (5)
  • Sean B.

Pretty consistent Thai food. I agree that their chicken dishes tend to use too much dark meat. Many vegeterian options, if that is important to you. Not too far from me, which I like... pretty average, but they're friendly and apparently the lunch specials are a deal...

Even though I lived walking distance from this place for a while, I never went in because it is easy to miss in it's quiet little strip mall. Wish I could turn back time. This place is good and cheap! But, be warned, they mean business with their spicy levels. I like it hot, and ordered a 3 on a scale of 1-5 and it was almost more than I could take. Good thing we shared a liter of wine to dampen the heat! I will definitely be back when I'm in the neighborhood!

YUM! I got fresh spring rolls with shrimp and Pad See Owe (spelling??) They were both delicious. A friend got the large coconut soup. It comes in a earthenware pot over a flame. It stayed hot our entire meal! bonus points. The Thai ice tea was great. Funky location, great little restaurant. Not too crowded early on this Thursday night. PS. The lunch specials look great.

Very good. Simple quiet place. Have been here about 10 times for dinner. Have only gotten either noodle or rice entrees so far, and a couple of the appetizers. All very good. The prices are also inexpensive compared to the other Thai restaurants I have been to in SD.

been going to this guys over ten years, they changed owners at least once, but they're middle-of-the-road consistent quality at a reas. price kept them in my scope all this time. if i want a decent dinner at at a reas. price in a nice setting i know i can count on them!

I originally found this place because it's close to where i teach, and my chiropractor is in the same mini mall. I'm not too regular, despite the closeness, simply because I work later than they close, normally. On the rare chance I get to eat here, I make it a point to go for the spicy noodles with chicken. They have this corn patty appetizer thing that I never remember what is called, but it's WONDERFUL. And the Thai Iced tea is gnar, too. Be careful...the spicy is so tasty that you'll want to eat a bunch, but it can haunt you later....like the next day. that was a poop joke.

My bf and I love Thai Time. The ladies are always super friendly. We love the tom yum noodle soup and the pad see ew (sp?). I think the prices are about the same as what you would find on Convoy. Some people complained about the price, but c'mon, whenever you order seafood whether it's at a Thai place, Mexican place, or American place, it's going to be more expensive than if you ordered chicken or beef.

    (4)
  • Christine H.

We order out here alot, great cheap eats. Nothing fancy but consistently delicious, big portions (always enough for lunch the next day) and I like the friendly ppl who work there. Living in Clairemont, choices are limited, so we were thrilled to find decent Thai food without a trip downtown.

    (4)
  • Elle E.

Portions were small, service was mediocre, and prices were average. My friend and I both ordered the pad thai; the flavor was not bad, it tasted like any other pad thai. There was a young man who delivered our food who could have been friendlier. He just didnt seem like he wanted to be there. His attitude didnt add to our experience. Overall, mediocre food for an average price. Wouldn't come back, unless this is the only thai place left.

I used to love coming here. My husband ALWAYS order the Panang Duck Curry medium in spice. I would do the Masaman curry - I always ask for mild since I'm a wimp with Thai spices. It's always great when they do it right and it's mild with all the flavor of curry. We have been ordering take out lately and every time we ask that my order be made mild, it's turned up a notch in the HOT department! I figured they made a mistake at first. This evening, we ordered take out from there and ask that it be mild. The portions are never the same for take out... some times more, some times less, very inconsistent. It's so freaking hot when I tried to eat it at home that after 2 bites, I couldn't continue eating. Bottom line is, dine in so that they make sure your order is right. Take out - at your own risk.

Good Thai food for the value!! I live right around the corner from this place. Take out is fast and friendly. The menu offers a lot of selection and reasonable prices. The food was above average for taste and quantity.

  • Sebastian R.

Tom Yum Goong soup was the BEST it had a very unique flavor because of the additional vegetables they add that you don;t normally see in the soup. With that being said everything else is decent, but the inside isn't too cozy, doesn't have that nice restaurant feeling, more like an apartment or something. 3 stars

    (3)

What a great place, the service is great and they have some great specials during the weekdays. Monica is also a great staff worker and owner. My wife and I really enjoy Thai Time for the atmosphere and service you got to try it!

  • Justin N.

Not a huge fan of this place. I suppose you could call this place about average but the prices were about $1 or $2 higher than average, so thus 2 stars. Staff was friendly but I do not think I will be coming back here again.

    (2)
  • Ryan N.

Lunch specials are awesome!! You get soup, eggroll and a wonton along with your meal. I had the green curry which was very good, although the standard amount of rice they give wasn't enough to soak up all the awesome broth. Their spice rack provided plenty of heat too: preserved chiles, chili powder and chili paste, all good stuff.

    (5)
  • Jes E.

This place is tucked away. It's small, and fantastic. The food comes out lightening fast and it's amazing for the price. The pad thai was nomtastic. The spicy thai noodles were the equivalent of drunken noodles, only not anywhere near as spicy as you would hope. They do have salt and pepper on the table, which is a rarity at thai places. The thai iced tea was good, and the coconut juice tasted like buttery squash, which is good if it's squash, but not so good as a cold drink. It will kill the spiciness lingering on your tongue though. Overall, damn good place in my neighborhood and I will head there again for sure.

    (4)
  • Amy N.

They have great tasting food! I've had their peanut sauce entrees, pad thai entree, and panang curry-all of them were pretty tasty. The only thing that set it up for a four and not a five was that they don't give as much meat/tofu as other Thai places I've been to have.

So-so thai food. Not bad for the price, but not nearly as good as other places that aren't much more expensive.

    (2)
  • Jeremy W.

Average. That's how I will sum up this place. It's about as average as average can get. One big pro is that their servers/workers are generally friendly, but the food itself is really just average. Nothing to rave about but nothing I'd spit back out. It's decently priced. It's generally pretty empty. I had the Panang curry the other day and it was, you guessed it, average. the flavors don't pop out as being spectacular but it was good enough that I wasn't upset. I love Tom Yum soup. I didn't quite like theirs. It was sour with the tiniest hint of spicy. I like it sour and spicy and they just didn't deliver on that. This is my second choice Thai restaurant in the area so I obviously don't hate on them that much.

    (3)
  • Doug B.

Very good and cheap. Great lunch specials. Not the best Thai ever, but better than some. You can eat a lot here for not a lot of dough. Good service. Try anything, and ask for it extra spicy.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant. The service is great, and the food awesome! Try their Tomka soup, pad tai, spicy noodles... and don't forget dessert: coconut ice cream with fried banana rolls!

  • Jewyl A.

Don't let the strip mall fool you... very yummy and what I really liked was that it was FRESH! All the veggies tasted like they were just cut, and they were definitely not overcooked. We had something with shrimp and there were only 7 shrimp but they were well cooked... and we had hot basil with chicken and it was delish. It's in the entertainment book, which made it a great deal, but we'll probably head back for full price soon.

i lovelovelove fried rice. pineapple, curry, you name it--it all belongs in my tummy. got the pad thai with chicken when i went a couple of days ago and that was deelliicciousss too. pretty cheap prices for pretty good food. i always come here with a friend and we end up paying $11 w/ tip max for lunch or dinner.

  • Liz S.

I love the food here... the ambience and service have some room for improvement but the quality of food more than makes up for it. I am a HUGE fan of the fresh spring rolls and the Tum Ka Soup. They do them better than any other Thai place in my opinion. I've tried several of their other dishes, they are good and tasty but they don't knock my socks off like the aforementioned dishes. It's hard to find this place so keep your eyes open.... If you want a decent dining experience that's not too expensive, then this is a good place to go. It's also kid friendly....

I went to UCSD for undergrad and I always find myself comparing Panang chicken curries from other restaurants to Thai Time's. It's still one of the best that I've ever had. I have had the Pad Thai before and it was pretty good, but I came here at least once a week (or more) because of the Panang curry.

Living in Pacific Beach, I haven't had a good Thai place to go to that serves yummy food with affordable prices. I had to go up the street on the east side of Highway 5 to find really good Thai Food, and Thai Time is the place! I'm a huge fan of Shrimp Pad Thai and I ordered it here. The noodles were cooked to perfection (not mushy nor rubbery). There was a good portion of shrimp to noodles, and the sauce was delicious. There is a great amount of noodles to where I had left overs to eat the next day. The service was great. Our server was a jokester but friendly to chat with. He came to check on us each to time making sure the food was great for us and if we needed anything (like water, a second bottle filled with water, or water without limes lol). Luckily for me, my brother lives a couple blocks from this location. So I'll be coming by more often to get my Thai food on.

I love Thai food. With that being said I was trying to introduce my son so that he has some cultured experiences in his young life. Out of all the Thai places I have frequented, this one is by far the best. The owner herself is on the floor and very sweet. She kept coming by to offer my son little things for him to try, and he loved every minute of it! Very authentic and very filling. Such a fun experience for us :)

Almost looks like an old-fashioned American diner when you walk in. Good prices and huge portions along with a pretty big selection of Thai dishes. We got Green Curry with chicken, Pad Thai, and Lard Na (Rad Na). Green curry was pretty good, lots of veggies and meat with rich flavors. Pad Thai was just alright, tasted like it had a lot of tomato sauce in it which was a little strange. Lard Na was pretty yummy though, lots of veggies, thick and rich broth, with warm noodles. I believe they only do credit cards with $10 and above so bring cash or treat a friend! Our server was very friendly, cracked jokes, and checked up on us often. Great place for Thai food, especially if you want big portions and quick service.

The Spicy Noodles with Chicken (spicy level #1) are the ABSOLUTE BEST I'VE E.V.E.R. HAD. Cooked to perfection with a very generous portion. Plus the customer service is great, Monica was very nice. I'm so happy with this awesome restaurant! Totally addicted, that's how killer their food is!

Best Spicy Noodles in San Diego hands-down! Yummy! It's perfect in every way. I usually get the tofu, but you can try it with any type of proteins. The owner is very nice too.

About three years ago I came here with my honey bunny and thought it was pretty good. Well, fast forward to the present and I came back with the same honey bunny and sadly it wasn't as good I as remembered it. I went off their house special menu and opted for the kai pad prik pow or chili oil, peanut, onion and carrots. The flavor was pretty boring. If it wasn't for the Thai chili oil on the table, the dish probably couldn't have been saved. The peanuts in the dish will remind you of kung pow chicken. (Just to note... this dish was $10.95, not $9.95 as advertised on their website.) Even though we were the only customers in the restaurant on a Wednesday night, I felt like we were forgotten. It took longer than I expected to get our room temperature food and to get our check. On our next Thai food adventure, we'll be heading back to the Convoy area.

Thai Time III is a solid place, serving large portions of tasty "American-style" Thai food at good prices. I have been here several times, and have never been disappointed. Tonight, I was in the mood for soup, so ordered the classic Tom Yum fire-pot with chicken ($7.95) that was pretty much perfect. The soup arrived hot and delicious, with enough in the fire-pot to have several bowls. Tom Yum is a slightly sour and spicy soup with lemon grass, onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, cilantro, and lime juice. It is one of my favorites when I want something on the light side. As a prelude to the soup, we had ordered the fresh spring rolls with shrimp ($5.75). These were rolled with tofu and slice vegetables (carrots, cucumber) and nicely wrapped in rice paper. Soft on the outside and fresh and crispy on the inside. Delightful! In the past, I have had various other dishes at Thai Time III, including their Pad Thai, curries, and others. Everything has been good. Thai Time III is a safe and predictable choice for lunch or dinner dining. Nothing super fancy or gourmet, but tasty and filling food that keeps bringing me back for more!

Wow, 4 of us were impressed with the generous portions on our tasty dinner entrees! My Spicy Noodles with chicken for $8.95, #30 on menu, included stir fried flat noodles, basil, chili, egg, and red & green peppers. All 4 of us agreed the taste and textures were just right, and the noodles weren't too greasy. I had leftovers even after eating my fill and giving everyone a taste! The server said spice level is either 1, 2, 3, or "Thai spicy". I chose spice level 3, and it was just right for me. K had the Pad Thai, and I tasted it, but it was far too sweet for me. But she enjoyed it. The portion was generous. M had a Firepot of one of the Thai soups, and it looked great. The fried spring rolls for $5.95 were tasty, although I'd prefer them with less cabbage. I poured lots of the sweet house sauce on mine. It's difficult to find a restaurant which is reliable on Sunday night. We were pleased with the food and service at Thai Time III on Genesee. Parking was easy on Sunday night, but I imagine parking may be tough at the lunch hour on weekdays. Lunch specials are available from 11:00 to 3:00 on Monday through Saturday. I'll definitely be returning to this Thai restaurant! Atmosphere is casual.

When I first moved to San Diego almost eight years ago, Thai Time III was my go-to Thai place because frankly I didn't know any better because frankly I didn't know any better. My only Thai food experiences at the point (well, outside of the real thing in Thailand) had been along University Avenue in Palo Alto... And let's just say that area is not really known for having a lot of people (read: non-whites) who are likely to know what good Thai is. Thai Time III sort of fills that same niche. But now I feel like I've "grown up" with respect to my taste in Thai food, and, aided by the greater diversity of Convoy, I've found better places like Koon Thai or Chaba Thai. Returning to Thai Time III now leaves me feeling like I'm returning to Palo Alto. Sure, it's decent, but it's also kind of dull. Everything, from the curries to the Pad Thai tastes exactly like you expect it. No more; no less. Upon venturing into less traditional Americanized Thai territory, as I did most recently with the Kana Moo Krob, one meets with some degree of disappoint. The "crispy pork" was crispy in the sense that it felt rock hard and simply does not compare to the version that never ceases to amaze me at Koon Thai. As a plus, the service was excellent on this most recent visit. But, then again, I've rarely found a Thai place that didn't have good service. Also, Thai Time III seems to be one of the few places in San Diego that serves the chili vinegar condiment, which is an actual thing found in Thailand (!), fantastic but also very spicy. Summary: When the clock strikes Thai time for you, consider venturing closer to Convoy.

Green Curry is phenomenal! I didn't like Thai food until I came here. Now I come here often! Great place to have dinner with friends and big servings. Hot basil is pretty good too! I always have a conflict when choosing the green curry or the fried rice! The flavors are bold and can taste the love put into the food! Staff is always welcoming and attentive!

Pretty good pad thai, really tasty coconut soup, and mediocre green curry. The ambiance is a tad old and cheap, but waitress was really nice.

Came here based on the yelp reviews and wasn't disappointed. There were six of us in our party and every single one of us left with happy bellies including a picky 10 year old. The price and the portions were great. I had the glass noodle stir fry, sorry can't remember the actual name, and have also had their pad se ew. Both were delicious, full of flavor and the right mix of meat, veggies and noodles.

I didn't expect much coming here but I left very satisfied. For the price you get huge portions here. I was so full I struggled to finish my food. 4 stars alone just for that. My friend and I came by for dinner and we shared the pad thai and curry fried rice. The pad thai here was bomb. I'm not joking when I say it's one of if not the best I have had in SD. I was not expecting that at all. Very nice flavor and it wasn't overly greasy. The curry fried rice was very good and huge. Nice curry flavors with raisins, carrots, peas and onions. I also got a small cup of tom yum and it was my least favorite dish of the night. I've had way better tom yum at other places as this one had a very strong sour flavor so it tasted a bit like just drinking lime juice. Service was good. The waitress we had was very friendly. Staff here seem to be family members helping out and it's nice to see a family working together. Overall a very solid thai place that I had no idea even existed. I will be back for that pad thai!

A solid meh. Not bad, not great. Rather bland. At the highest spice level I'd rate it maybe a 5 or 6 without much depth of flavor. Probably appeals to more typical American taste, although thankfully the super-oiliness and sickly sweetness of most faux Asian cuisine was missing here. Not generous with the protein or the extra vegetables I ordered in my spicy noodles, though there were lots of noodles. I didn't hate my experience but I don't feel compelled to go back.

Definitely the best curry around. Fairly priced and great service. After reading various reviews about the panang curry, I decided to give it a shot. Usually I get the massaman curry but this time I took the plunge... And I'm glad I did. The flavor is excellent. The coconut milk works perfectly with it. Great consistency and portion size is just enough for leftovers. My girlfriend got the pad Thai, which was also amazing. They don't add too many bean sprouts like most Thai restaurants do. Perfect spice and everything. I also got the Thai iced tea - one of my favorite drinks. Theirs was spot on. Definitely recommend it. This is my go to Thai place in the area. Give it a shot and you won't be disappointed.

Let's just say that after ordering the panang chicken curry, I was told by the waiter that he knows why I ordered the chicken. I played the dumb card and asked why.... He continued to say that it was because I was black. During this time with race being a very sensitive topic, I thought it was wrong and highly unprofessional. I don't think he meant any harm at all but it was enough to offend me. I won't be returning to this restaurant.

Whenever I crave spicy noodles w/ chicken this is my go-to! Their spice levels are: mild, medium, or hot. I always get medium bc I'm into spicy food. The portions are big, and the prices are decent. Ordered the pad thai once, but I think it was more sweet than I like. The staff is always really nice! I usually call in my order, & it's ready in 10 min. The minimum is $10 if you use a card, and my order for spicy noodles is $9 - something, so they usually ask if it's ok to just charge $10, which is fine w/ me. The only thing is that they almost always forget to include utensils & napkins when I order for pick-up, so be sure to ask before you leave!

So I ordered the angel wing, pad see eww with chicken, som tom (papaya salad) med spicy and Thai tea. This was to go btw. The angel wing comes with two pretty big 'wings.'They are in the shape of s chicken thigh but the insides are stuffed with a meat mixture with glass noodles and other stuff. It's come with a sweet chili sauce. The wing is crispy on the outside. The mixture inside is somewhat densely packed. By itself it taste plain but with the sauce it taste better. The pad see eww was very tasty. I actually enjoy it better here than other Thai places in SD. It comes piping hot. It is not salty at all, very savory, the vegetables are still crunchy and the chicken is not dry( with pork it probably would be more juicy) the noodles are nicely soft( not overly soggy). The portion is, in my opinion, pretty big. It can be shared amongst a party of 2 or you can buy it for yourself and take home the left overs. The som Tom was pretty good. I had medium spicy but could probably go 2-3 spice level up. It was a little sweet for my taste but is good enough. ( I prefer Laos style som Tom but this one was okay) nothing was particularly special about it. The Thai tea tasted like any other restaurant or boba places. It was really sweet so I added more milk when I got home to fit my taste. Overall I did enjoy the food. Service was great and the people were very nice. Would I come back again? Yes I would :)

The food's not bad, but definitely not up to the standard of other Thai places in San Diego. I ordered the chicken satay, and the sauce it came with definitely seemed like it could have been frozen at one point. However, the service was great, and the place is actually really nice on the inside. All in all, decent food with a nice dining environment.

I've been here twice now. I like their lunch special. I keep it pretty simple with the chicken pad Thai, but it's delicious, and you get a ton of food for a reasonable price. I'll definitely be back!

Not the greatest Thai food but they get an extra star for service. I ordered Pad Thai to go not knowing about the $10 minimum to pay with credit card. The woman who rung me up was very nice and let ran my card anyway.

Love this place and the food. Monica is amazing. The fresh spring rolls and the sauce that comes with it is one of my favorite things to eat. I'm obsessed.

The food taste was just OK. We thought we would try some different Thai restaurant to see if there would be any differences from Siam Nara and others, but we were wrong. The atmosphere inside was like Dennys combine with Hometown Buffet, also most of the customers were Caucasian. Everything in this place didnt make us feel lile we were at authentic Thai joint, the waitress had a weird accent maybe Japanese and she was rude to us when we asked about Salted Crab Papaya Salad, she told us if it was not on the menu then we couldnt order while other Thai restaurant always gave us options not on the menu. She didnt pay attention on our order, I asked to add shrimps for my noodles instead she put shrimps on my girl friend noodles. Also we saw her spilled water on people at other table, lucky for them its just water. At the end when she took care of our bill, she looked at it and made a comment saying wow you guys know how to eat Thai food huh. WTF? Again if we dont know how to eat Thai food we didnt spend time educating you and your stupid menu. SMH wont come back here anymore sigh
